Beur
''Beur'' (or alternatively, ''Rebeu'') is a colloquial term, sometimes considered pejorative, in French to designate European-born people whose parents or grandparents are immigrants from the Maghreb. The equivalent term for a female beur is a beurette. The term ''rebeu'' is neither applicable to females nor does it have a female version. Use The word beur was coined using verlan for the word ''arabe'', which means Arabic or Arab in French. Since the late 1990s, many young people have used the twice-verlanised term ''rebeu'' as a synonym. This term is now the dominant term used by the younger generations (under 30). The word ''beurette'', the female version of ''beur'', is created by adding the -ette female suffix in French. In French many slang words are created by simply reversing the word in terms of spelling and then reading it out. Because of French grammar rules, the new word is usually completely different from the result of reversing the word phonetically. The word ''b ...

Beur TV is a French television station mostly addressed to France's Maghrebi communities ( Algerians, Moroccans and Tunisians). It is broadcast through cable and offered on ADSL. The community-based television station was licensed through the Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel (CSA) in France on 8 January 2002. The chain started broadcasting on 1 April 2003, and was owned by Algerian-French Nacer Kettane, who was also owner of Beur FM radio station. The chain developed partnerships with various Maghrebi media to cover important events in those countries, most notably ENTV (Algeria), RTM and 2M (Morocco) and ERTT (Tunisia). In July 2011, and after the station suffered financial difficulties, Nacer Kettane sold 80% of the enterprise to VOXALGERIE. Beurgeois
A beurgeois is a middle-class (and upwards) Muslim born in a working-class area of France to parents of Maghrebi origin, who continues to proclaim their roots and who is aged between 30 and 40 years old with a successful professional career, a high purchasing power and a demand for a certain quality of life. Etymology ''Beurgeois'' is a portmanteau neologism created in France from the words ''"beur"'' (meaning a person of Arab, Berber or other Maghrebi descent in verlan) and ''"bourgeois"'' (meaning affluent). Among the beurgeois themselves, opinion over the beurgeois designation is quite divided. While some people consider it as a sort of recognition of their success, the majority believe that this pejorative term is once again expressing their stigmatization and discrimination as French people of Muslim descent.
