Peter Batey (director)
Peter Batey (1933''–''14 June 2019) was an Australian actor, director and founder of the Bald Archy Prize. He was a founding member of the Melbourne Theatre Company and the South Australian Theatre Company. Early life and education Batey was born in Benalla, Victoria (Australia), Victoria in 1933 and moved to Melbourne when he was 16, where he studied drama. Career Batey worked as a playwright, a director, a founding member of both the Melbourne Theatre Company and the South Australian Theatre Company 1961 saw the debut of his first play ''The No Hopers''; he directed approximately 130 others. He was the first director of the Victorian Arts Council and helped Barry Humphries create the Dame Edna Everage character. Batey Launched the Bald Archy Prize in 1994 scheduled to occur during the Festival of Fun in the town of Coolac, New South Wales, Coolac where he lived at that time. David Courtney
David Courtney (born David Cohen, 1950, Brighton, East Sussex) is a British singer, songwriter and record producer. Courtney's first big break was as a songwriter with Adam Faith and Leo Sayer; Courtney co-wrote several hit songs with them (including "Giving it All Away", recorded by both Sayer and Roger Daltrey) and he co-produced Faith's 1974 album, ''I Survive''. He released one album of his own on United Artists in 1974 entitled ''David Courtney's First Day'' which had some success on both sides of the Atlantic, and peaked at number 194 on the US ''Billboard'' 200. Festival Records (later known as Festival Mushroom Records) was an Australian recording and publishing company founded in Sydney, Australia, in 1952 and operated until 2005. Festival was a wholly owned subsidiary of News Limited from 1961 to 2005, and the company was successful for most of its 50-year life, despite the fact that as much as 90% of its annual profit was regularly siphoned off by Rupert Murdoch to subsidise his other media ventures. A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. At first, the discs were commonly made from shellac, with earlier records having a fine abrasive filler mixed in. Starting in the 1940s polyvinyl chloride became common, hence the name vinyl. The phonograph record was the primary medium used for music reproduction throughout the 20th century. The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, ''Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top-40 Singles from 1966, and Album charts from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. "The Show Must Go On" is a song co-written by Leo Sayer and David Courtney and first recorded by Sayer. It was released in the United Kingdom in 1973, becoming Sayer's first hit record (reaching its chart peak of #2 in early 1974 in the UK). The song reached #3 on the Irish Singles Chart in January 1974, and was included on Sayer's debut album '' Silverbird''.
