Grinspoon are an Australian Rock music, rock band from Lismore, New South Wales, formed in 1995 and fronted by Phil Jamieson on vocals and guitar with Pat Davern on guitar, Joe Hansen on bass guitar and Kristian Hopes on drums. Also in 1995, Grinspoon won the Triple J-sponsored Unearthed (talent contest), Unearthed competition for Lismore, with their post-grunge song "Grinspoon (EP), Sickfest". The name "Grinspoon" was taken from Lester Grinspoon, Dr. Lester Grinspoon, an associate professor emeritus of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, who supported marijuana for medical use. The 2004 Triple J Hottest 100 was announced on 26 January 2005. It was the twelfth such countdown of the most popular songs of the year, according to listeners of the Australian radio station Triple J. Voters were limited to 20 votes each: 10 via SMS (charged at 30c each) and 10 via the Internet (no charge). U2's "Vertigo" placed at number 38, despite having not been played on Triple J. Triple J presenter Craig Reucassel encouraged voters to vote for the '' Media Watch'' theme music on the condition that his counterpart Chris Taylor would do a nude run through the Big Day Out if it made the hottest 100. "Hold on Me" is the third single released by Grinspoon from their fourth studio album ''Thrills, Kills & Sunday Pills''. It was released on 21 February 2005 on the Universal Records label. The initial single release included a lapel pin badge under shrink wrap, with 'Hold On Me - Grinspoon EP' themed artwork. It debuted on the ARIA Singles Chart at No. 44 . Four minutes and fifty-two seconds into the last track on the single, "Get the Fuck Out of Here", the original version of "Hold on Me" can be heard. It was entitled "Showpony" and contains different lyrics as well as slightly different arrangement.
