''Best Bits'' is a compilation album released by Roger Daltrey released in March 1982 in United States and under the title ''The Best of Roger Daltrey'' in Europe in 1981. It was released on MCA 5301, Canada, and the album reached #185 in the U.S. charts. The tracks "Martyrs and Madmen" and "Treachery" were previously unreleased. The compilation and additional remixing were done by Jon Astley and Phil Chapman. Roger Harry Daltrey (born 1 March 1944) is an English singer, musician and actor. He is a co-founder and the lead singer of the Rock music, rock band The Who. Daltrey's hit songs with The Who include "My Generation", "Pinball Wizard", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Baba O'Riley" and "You Better You Bet". He began his solo career in 1973, while still a member of The Who. Since then he has released ten solo studio albums, five compilation albums, and one live album. Phillip Goodhand-Tait
Phillip Goodhand-Tait (born 3 January 1945, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England) is an English singer-songwriter, record producer and keyboard player. Life and career Goodhand-Tait was known as Phil Tait in his school years. His mother was a piano teacher and his father was involved in trade unions. Goodhand-Tait began his music career shortly after the family moved to Guildford, Surrey, in 1957. His first group, Phill Tone and the Vibrants, was renamed Phill and the Stormsville Shakers in 1961. The band included Paul Demers on drums, Ivor Shackleton on guitar, and Kirk Riddle on bass. By 1966, the same year the group released its first singles, the Stormsville Shakers's lineup included Tait, Riddle, Ian Jelfs on guitar, David Sherrington on tenor sax, and Alan Bunn on drums. Andy Pratt (born January 25, 1947) is an American rock singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. In the 1970s, he made a number of experimental records, of which "Avenging Annie" was a commercial hit. Career Pratt's demo recording of ''Avenging Annie'' was given to the Brown University radio station WBRU in 1972. In early 1973, Pratt signed to Columbia Records by Clive Davis. He went into Aengus Studios, of Fayville, Massachusetts and released '' Andy Pratt'' in 1973, which had modest commercial success. The single, ''Avenging Annie'', peaked at number 78 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, spending ten weeks on the chart. The song was re-recorded by The Who singer Roger Daltrey for his album ''One of the Boys'' in 1977. Gerard Hugh "Leo" Sayer (born 21 May 1948) is an English-Australian singer and songwriter whose singing career has spanned five decades. He has been an Australian citizen and resident since 2009. Sayer launched his career in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, and he became a top singles and album act on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1970s. David Courtney (born David Cohen, 1950, Brighton, East Sussex) is a British singer, songwriter and record producer. Courtney's first big break was as a songwriter with Adam Faith and Leo Sayer; Courtney co-wrote several hit songs with them (including "Giving it All Away", recorded by both Sayer and Roger Daltrey) and he co-produced Faith's 1974 album, ''I Survive''. He released one album of his own on United Artists in 1974 entitled ''David Courtney's First Day'' which had some success on both sides of the Atlantic, and peaked at number 194 on the US ''Billboard'' 200. Courtney did not release any further material until 2005, when some of his unreleased material, including a 1980 studio album, was released on indie label The White Room. "Giving It All Away" is the debut solo single by Roger Daltrey, the lead singer of The Who. The song was written by the then unknown Leo Sayer with David Courtney. Adam Faith and David Courtney produced the track. The song was the first single from the 1973 album '' Daltrey''. It reached number five in the UK Singles Chart but failed to chart in the US. Daltrey would never beat this chart position in the UK throughout his whole solo career. The British release, with considerable airplay of "Giving It All Away", (first lines "I paid all my dues so I picked up my shoes, I got up and walked away") coincided with news reports of the Who being sued for unpaid damage to their hotel on a recent tour, including a TV set being thrown out of the window. William Morris Nicholls Jr (born 15 February 1949) is an English singer, songwriter, composer, record producer, and musical director. He was born into a musical family, his father Billy Nicholls (Sr.) being a double bassist and big band singer, performing with such bands as The Oscar Rabin Romany Band (Hammersmith Palais), Alan Green with his boys, the RAF band The Squadronaires and later performed on radio with Will Hay with Royal Command Performances. Nicholls first gained fame in the 1960s while still a teenager with his ''Pet Sounds''-influenced album, '' Would You Believe'', originally released on Immediate Records.
