Berta Zerón
Berta Zerón de GarcÃa (June 23, 1924 - December 2000) was the first woman in Mexico to obtain a Commercial Pilot's License and an Unlimited Public Transport License. She was the first woman to pilot a jet airplane, participate in international air races, and become a skydiver. Zerón received two "Emilio Carranza" medals: the first for being the first Mexican woman to obtain her TPI license and the second for reaching 10,000 flight hours. She was an active member of the "99's", the Women's Pilot Association founded by Amelia Earhart. Biography Berta Zerón was born in the city of Pachuca, Hidalgo. When she was 11, she went to Honolulu, Hawaii, with her father, where she learned English and received her first formal schooling. Returning to Mexico two years later, Berta discovered an airplane belonging to Amelia Earheart on the ship upon which they were travelling. Powder Puff Derby (1947)
The ''Powder Puff Derby'' was the name given to an annual transcontinental air race for women pilots inaugurated in 1947. For the next two years it was named the "Jacqueline Cochran All-Woman Transcontinental Air Race" (AWTAR). It was dubbed the "''Powder Puff Derby''" in reference to the 1929 Women's Air Derby by humorist and aviation advocate Will Rogers. In 1977, rising costs, insurance premiums, and diminished corporate sponsorship saw the competition come to an end after thirty years. After the commemorative final flight, the Air Race Classic continued the tradition for women pilots. Popular culture The Powder Puff Derby was frequently mentioned in the television series The Astronaut Wives Club (2015). The Cessna 205, 206, and 207, known primarily as the Stationair (and marketed variously as the Super Skywagon, Skywagon and Super Skylane) are a family of single-engined, general aviation aircraft with fixed landing gear, used in commercial air service as well as for personal use. The Beechcraft Model 50 Twin Bonanza is a small twin-engined aircraft designed by Beechcraft as an executive transport for the business market. It was developed to fill a gap in Beechcraft's product line between the single-engined Model 35 Bonanza and the larger Model 18. The Twin Bonanza is dissimilar to the Bonanza, being much larger and heavier and using more powerful engines, while in its earliest form having only half the passenger capacity of the Model 18.
