Berlin–Wrocław Railway
The Berlin–Wrocław railway (german: Niederschlesisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, roughly translating as "Lower Silesian-Marcher Railway", NME) was a German private railway that connected Berlin (then capital of the March of Brandenburg, ''Mark Brandenburg'') and Wrocław (in Lower Silesia, then part of Prussia, and called Breslau in German, now in Poland). It is one of the oldest lines in Germany, opened between 1842 and 1847 and acquired by the Prussian government in 1852. In 1920, it became part of the German national railways along with the rest of the Prussian state railways. Berlin Ostbahnhof (German for Berlin East railway station) is a main line railway station in Berlin, Germany. It is located in the Friedrichshain quarter, now part of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg borough, and has undergone several name changes in its history. It was known as Berlin Hauptbahnhof from 1987 to 1998, a name now applied to Berlin's new central station at the former Lehrter station. Berliner Ringbahn
The Ringbahn (German language, German for circle railway) is a long circle route around Berlin's inner city area, on the Berlin S-Bahn network. Its course is made up of a double-tracked S-Bahn ring and a parallel freight ring. The S-Bahn lines S41/42 (Berlin), S41 and S42 provide a closed-loop continuous service without termini. Lines S45, S46 and S47 use a section of the southern and western ring, while lines S8 and S85 use sections of the eastern ring. The combined number of passengers is about 400,000 passengers a day. Due to its distinctive shape, the line is often referred to as the ''Hundekopf'' (Dog's Head). Berlin-Rahnsdorf Station
Rahnsdorf station is a station of the Berlin S-Bahn. It is located in the district of Rahnsdorf in the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenick. History The station was opened on 15 May 1879. The station was rebuilt to a design by the architects Charles Cornelius and Waldemar Suadicani between 1899 and 1902. This work was made necessary by the elevation of the tracks and the simultaneous construction of a separate pair of tracks for long-distance and freight traffic. The original construction of the station area is still largely preserved and the station building is heritage-listed. There was a serious railway accident on 11 November 1916: a group of track maintenance workers made up of women—because of labour shortages as a result of the First World War—waved to the soldiers of a passing military train. Berlin-Friedrichshagen station is a station of the Berlin S-Bahn in district of Friedrichshagen in the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenick. It is located north of the village of Friedrichshagen on the Berlin-Frankfurt (Oder) railway. History The station was opened on 23 October 1842 with the Berlin–Frankfurt (Oder) railway. With the development of the line to include a pair of suburban tracks to the north of the mainline tracks, the station was raised, along with the line, by about six metres to enable the removal of level crossings in 1903. It is a two-track through station located at Bahnhofstrasse and Elcknerplatz on the Berlin-Frankfurt (Oder) railway ("Lower Silesian–Markish Railway"). Berlin Wuhlheide Station
Wuhlheide station is a station of the Berlin S-Bahn on the Berlin-Frankfurt (Oder) railway (“Lower Silesian–Markish Railway”). It is located at the junction of the line with the Berlin outer ring in the district of Köpenick. Berlin Outer Ring
The Berlin outer ring (german: Berliner Außenring, BAR) is a long double track electrified railway, originally built by the German Democratic Republic to bypass West Berlin in preparation for the building of the Berlin Wall during the division of Germany. It was developed by East Germany for economic, transport policy, and military reasons between 1951 and 1961 and included parts of some older lines (Outer Freight Ring, Jüterbog–Nauen railway, and Michendorf–Großbeeren railway). Without the completion of the outer ring it would not have been possible to build the Berlin Wall, sealing off West Berlin, without disrupting East Germany’s transport links.
