Berlin Heerstraße Station
Heerstraße is a railway station in Berlin, Germany. It is located on the Spandau Suburban Line in the Westend district and served by S-Bahn and trains. The station is today listed as a historical monument. Location The station is situated on the Heerstraße road, the major thoroughfare from Berlin's inner city to the west. The street, a section of the ''Bundesstraße 2'' and '' 5'' highways, originally led to the former proving grounds in Döberitz, thus the name ''Heer'' (land army). The large Grunewald forest with the Teufelsberg hill is located nearby in the south. History The station opened on 1 November 1909, where the new Spandau suburban railway (''Westbahn'') branched off the western continuation of the Berlin Stadtbahn line at Westkreuz station to reach the Berlin–Lehrte and Berlin–Hamburg railways at Spandau. Grunewald () is a German forest located in the western side of Berlin on the east side of the Havel, mainly in the Grunewald locality. At it is the largest green area in the city of Berlin. Geography The forest occupies, on the western side, 3/4 of the Grunewald locality, a small portion of the southern part of Westend (both in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf borough); a great part of Nikolassee, the northern side of Zehlendorf and the northwestern part of Dahlem (all 3 in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough). Guards Corps (German Empire)
The Guards Corps/GK (german: Gardekorps) was a corps level command of the Prussian and then the Imperial German Armies from the 19th century to World War I. The Corps was headquartered in Berlin, with its units garrisoned in the city and nearby towns (Potsdam, Jüterbog, Döberitz). Unlike all other Corps of the Imperial German Army, the Guards Corps did not recruit from a specific area, but from throughout Prussia and the "Imperial Lands" of Alsace-Lorraine. The 1916 Summer Olympics (german: Olympische Sommerspiele 1916), officially known as the Games of the VI Olympiad, were scheduled to be held in Berlin, German Empire, but were eventually cancelled for the first time in its 20-year history due to the outbreak of World War I. Deutsches Stadion (Berlin)
Deutsches Stadion was a multi-use sports stadium in Berlin, Germany. It was located at Deutsches Sportforum in the present-day Westend quarter on the northern rim of the large Grunewald forest. Olympiastadion is a railway station in the Westend (Berlin), Westend district of Berlin. Berlin–Lehrte Railway
The Berlin–Lehrte railway, known in German as the Lehrter Bahn (''Lehrte Railway''), is an east–west line running from Berlin via Lehrte to Hanover.
