Berg En Dal (municipality)
Berg en Dal (literally in English: ''Mountain and Valley'') is a municipality in the eastern Netherlands, in the province of Gelderland. It was formed through a merger of the municipalities of Groesbeek, Millingen aan de Rijn and Ubbergen in 2015. The resulting larger municipality maintained the name of Groesbeek until 2016, when it was renamed to Berg en Dal after the village of Berg en Dal. Berg en Dal has about 34,714 inhabitants and covers an area of about 93 km². The municipality borders in the north on the Waal river and the Bijlands Kanaal, in the east on the German forest of the Reichswald, in the south on the province of Limburg, in the southwest on the forest of the Mookerheide (also Limburg), and in the west on the city of Nijmegen. As of 24 March 2022, there are 344 municipalities ( nl, gemeenten) and three special municipalities () in the Netherlands. Berg En Dal (village)
Berg en Dal is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located to the southeast of the city of Nijmegen. The village lies in the municipality of Berg en Dal. One of the attractions in the village is the Africa Museum, which consists of a number of African villages, rebuilt on a 1:1 scale. History The name of the village means "Mountain and Valley"; it refers to the hills in the neighbourhood. The name was first used in 1867. The village has its origins in the early Middle Ages, and developed on a hill along the road from Nijmegen to Kleve. It used to be surrounded by heath and contained little farms. De Horst is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. Breedeweg is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located in the municipality of Berg en Dal, about 1 km south of Groesbeek Groesbeek () is a town and former municipality in the province of Gelderland, the Netherlands. In January 2015 the former municipality merged with Millingen aan de Rijn and Ubbergen. Beek, Berg En Dal
Beek is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located in the municipality of Berg en Dal, about 5 km east of Nijmegen. It was sometimes referred to as "Beek (bij Nijmegen)" or "Beek-Ubbergen" because there are many villages called Beek. History It was first mentioned in 814-815 as Bechi, and means brook. The village dates from the early Middle Ages and was an agricultural community. In the 19th century, it developed into a villa ward. The tower of the Saint Bartholomew's Church has elements which are probably from the 11th century. The current layout dates from 1650. Between 1948 and 1950, it was extensively repaired due to war damage. In 1840, it was home to 715 people. Beek was a separate municipality until 1 January 1818, when municipality Beek fused with "Ooij en Persingen" forming municipality Ubbergen. International Four Days Marches Nijmegen
The International Four Day Marches Nijmegen ( nl, Internationale Vierdaagse Afstandsmarsen Nijmegen) is the largest multiple day marching event in the world. It is organised every year in Nijmegen, Netherlands in mid-July as a means of promoting sport and exercise. Participants walk , or daily, depending on their age and gender and, on completion, receive a royally approved medal (Vierdaagsekruis). The participants are mostly civilians, but there are also a few thousand military participants. Military participants' distance is 40 km, in uniform, carrying at least marching weight for men aged 18–49; for women, the weight is optional. Summary The ''Vierdaagse'' (Dutch for "four days event") is an annual walk that has taken place since 1909. Based at Nijmegen since 1924, it now takes place in the third week of July. Duivelsberg
(german: Wylerberg or , which literally translates to 'the devil's mountain') is a hill and nature reserve in the municipality of in the Dutch province of Gelderland, near the border with Germany (North Rhine-Westphalia). It is politically significant, however, because is the only part of the Netherlands that was both Dutch annexation of German territory after World War II, annexed from Germany and retained after World War II.
