Benjamin Van Leer
Benjamin van Leer (born 9 April 1992) is a retired Dutch professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He formerly played for Jong PSV, Roda JC Kerkrade, Ajax and Sparta Rotterdam. Career In June 2017, Van Leer joined Ajax on a four-year contract from Roda JC Kerkrade. The transfer fee paid to Kerkrade was reported as €700,000. On 30 June 2020, van Leer signed a two-year contract with Sparta Rotterdam. In June 2023, after a year without club, Van Leer's partner, Lieke Martens, confirmed in an interview that he had retired from football. Personal life Born in Nieuwegein, Netherlands, Van Leer is of Moluccan descent. On 13 June 2023, he married fellow professional football player Lieke Martens after a five-year relationship in Málaga, Spain. The Eredivisie (; ''"Honour Division"'' or ''"Premier Division"'') is the highest level of professional football in the Netherlands. The league was founded in 1956, two years after the start of professional football in the Netherlands. It is considered one of the best European leagues. 2019 Johan Cruyff Shield
The 2019 Johan Cruyff Shield was the 24th edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield ( nl, Johan Cruijff Schaal), an annual Dutch football match played between the winners of the previous season's Eredivisie and KNVB Cup. The match was contested by Ajax, as both the 2018–19 Eredivisie champion and the 2018–19 KNVB Cup winners, and PSV Eindhoven as runners-up of the Eredivisie. Johan Cruyff Shield
The Johan Cruyff Shield (, ) is a football trophy in the Netherlands named after Dutch footballer Johan Cruyff, also often referred to as the Dutch Super Cup. The winner is decided in one match only, played by the winner of the national football league, Eredivisie, and the winner of the national KNVB Cup. In the event of a team winning both the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup, the Johan Cruyff Shield will be contested between that team and the runner up in the national league. The trophy The trophy is a silver plate with a 60-centimetre diameter. It is similar to the trophies received by the champions of the Eredivisie. 2020–21 Eredivisie
The 2020–21 Eredivisie was the 65th season of the Eredivisie since its establishment in 1955. The season began on 12 September 2020 and concluded on 16 May 2021. On 2 February 2021, the KNVB announced that effective immediately clubs would be allowed to make an extra substitution for suspected concussions as part of an IFAB sanctioned trial. This trial will allow teams to make up to six substitutions across four breaks in the match instead of five substitutions across three breaks in the match. Ajax, having won the title in 2018–19, were the title holders, since the 2019–20 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands after 25 matchdays and the title was not awarded.
