Syed Mustafa Siraj
Syed Mustafa Siraj (14 October 1930 – 4 September 2012) was an eminent Indian writer. In 1994, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel '' Mythical Man'' (''Aleek Manush''), considered his most lauded work. In 2005, his short story "Ranirghater Brittanto" was made into the film ''Faltu'' by Anjan Das. He wrote around 150 novels and 300 short stories. He is the creator of the detective character Colonel Niladri Sarkar a.k.a. "Goenda Colonel", the Detective Colonel. Life and works Syed Mustafa Siraj was born in a village named Khoshbaspur in the district of Murshidabad in 1930. He grew up in a home with a strong literary background surrounded by books and familiarity with several languages including Arabic, Persian and Sanskrit. His mother who wrote poetry was influential. Faltu
''Faltu'' ( bn, ফালতু, translation: "Useless") is a Bengali movie based on Syed Mustafa Siraj's story ''Ranir Ghater Brittanto''. It was released in 2006. It won the 2007 National Award. Produced by Arindam Chaudhuri (Planman Motion Pictures) and directed by Anjan Das, the movie featured Soumitra Chatterjee, Indrani Halder, Yash Pandit, Pradip Mukherjee and Manjari Fadnis, Nirmal Kumar, Masood Akhtar, and Biplab Chatterjee. It had been selected from India for the Spain film festival in the competitive category. Plot The story is set around Ranirghat of Murshidabad District in West Bengal in the early 1950s. It is the story of a 20-year-old orphan called Faltu (faltu in Bengali means worthless, junk) and his search for the man who has fathered him. This is also the account of a village and its people, woven around a narrative with myriad moments and a lot of dramatic events. Kaushik Ganguly (born 4 August 2012) is an Indian film director, screenwriter and actor in Bengali cinema. Multiple National Award winner Actor-Director, Kaushik Ganguly is known for making films that explore various aspects sexuality, like ''Ushnatar Janye'' (2003), which deals with a lesbian relationship, and ''Arekti Premer Golpo'' (2010), which examines transgender identity & '' Nagarkirtan'' (2017), an LGBTQ Movie. Life Ganguly was born in Kolkata on 4 August 1968. His father was guitarist Sunil Ganguly. He attended Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur and later Jadavpur University where he worked on a degree in Bengali literature. ''Shunyo E Buke'' (English: Empty canvas) is a 2005 Bengali film directed by Kaushik Ganguly. The film deals with the psyche of men and women and their physical relationship. After making ''Waarish'' Ganguly made this second feature film and this film did well in Kolkata and was appreciated in few film festivals. Plot Saumitra, a brilliant painter and sculptor, visits Khajuraho Group of Monuments to draw inspiration and meets Teesta there through a common friend, Anjit who is an artiste too. Love blossoms between them in Kolkata and though their family and economic standards are poles apart, they decide to marry. Teesta breaks away from her rich, blue blood family. Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards commonly referred as BFJA Awards, is given by The Bengal Film Journalists' Association. The BFJA is the oldest association of film critics in India, founded in 1937 to serve the developing film journalism and film industry. Overview Members of the association are drawn from the film section of the entire press of West Bengal composed of dailies, periodicals and film journals in various languages published from Kolkata. Film correspondents and critics working for any newspaper or periodicals published outside Bengal having their base in Kolkata were also eligible to be members of this association. The association was the first to institute awards in an endeavor to promote and encourage the production of better films, when in 1938, a year after its inception, the 1st Motion Picture Congress was held in Faridpur (now in Bangladesh).
