Benderli Ali Pasha
Benderli Ali Pasha was an Ottoman statesman. He was Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire. He ruled from 23 March 1821 to 30 April 1821 as grand vizier of Sultan Mahmud IIİsmail Hâmi Danişmend, ''Osmanlı Devlet Erkânı'', Türkiye Yayınevi, İstanbul, 1971, p. 72. He came to Constantinople on 21 April 1821 and was actually only nine days in power. He was the last grand vizier clearly executed upon a clear order by a Sultan (Mahmud II). According to Ottoman biography textbook called ''Sicill-i Osmani'', on 12 April 1821 he was diminished by Sultan Mahmud and was sent to exile in Rhodes, where he died later. Controversially according to Ottoman annals by royal historian Vak'a-nüvis Ahmet Cevdet Efendi (textbook called ''Tarih-i Cevdet''), he was sent in exile to Cyprus and after his departure royal executors were sent to the island. Mehmed Selim Pasha or Mehmed Selim Sırrı Pasha (1771 Bender, Moldova – 1831 Damascus, Ottoman Empire, nickname: "Benderli") was an Ottoman statesman. He was Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire. He ruled from 14 September 1824 to 24 October 1828 as Grand Vizier of sultan Mahmud IIİsmail Hâmi Danişmend, ''Osmanlı Devlet Erkânı'', Türkiye Yayınevi, İstanbul, 1971, p. 73. and failed in the fight against the Greek War of Independence. The Auspicious Incident (''Vaka-i Hayriye''), the Battle of Navarino (1827), happened during his period in office. In 1828–30 he became Wali (governor) of Rumelia Province and 1830–31 Wali of Damascus (Syria). Bender, Moldova
Bender (, Moldovan Cyrillic: Бендер) or Bendery (russian: Бендеры, , uk, Бендери), also known as Tighina ( ro, Tighina), is a city within the internationally recognized borders of Moldova under ''de facto'' control of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Transnistria) (PMR) since 1992. It is located on the western bank of the river Dniester in the Romanian historical region of Bessarabia. Together with its suburb Proteagailovca, the city forms a municipality, which is separate from Transnistria (as an administrative unit of Moldova) according to Moldovan law. Bender is located in the buffer zone established at the end of the 1992 War of Transnistria. While the Joint Control Commission has overriding powers in the city, Transnistria has ''de facto'' administrative control.
