Ben Dixon (Australian Rules Footballer)
Ben Dixon (born 14 June 1977) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was the selected by Hawthorn at pick number 77 as a fifth round selection in the 1994 national draft. AFL career He debuted in 1997 and kicked 282 goals as a forward including a goal to win the game after the siren against in round 17, 2001. Dixon retired at the end of the 2007 season. Post-football career After retiring, he appeared on Future Stars and as a commentator for Fox Footy. In 2017, Dixon joined as their goalkicking coach. Fox Footy (stylised as FOX FOOTY) is an Australian rules football subscription television channel dedicated to screening Australian rules football matches and related programming. It is owned by Fox Sports Pty Limited, operated out of their Melbourne based studios and available throughout Australia on Foxtel, and Optus Television. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. In Australian rules football, if a player takes a mark or is awarded a free kick before the siren sounds to end a quarter, and the siren sounds before the player takes a set shot, the player is allowed to take the kick after the siren. Often, the result of this kick is of little consequence, but if the player is within range of goal, any score will count towards the final result.
