Believe (Goldie Song)
"Believe" is a song by English musician Goldie, released by FFRR as third single from the musician's second album, ''Saturnz Return'' (1998). The song reached number 36 on the UK Singles Chart on 18 April 1998. It features vocals from Goldie's frequent collaborator Diane Charlemagne and is one of the most soul and jazz-influenced tracks on the album alongside "Crystal Clear" and "Dragonfly". Critical reception A reviewer from ''Music Week'' wrote, "There is a mellow mood on this muted, horn-led — almost disco — tune which acts as a showcase for Diane Charlemagne's vocal talents and Goldie's fluffier side. Goldie
Clifford Joseph Price MBE (born 19 September 1965), better known as Goldie, is a British music producer and DJ. Initially gaining exposure for his work as a graffiti artist, Goldie became well known for his pioneering role as a musician in the 1990s UK jungle, drum and bass and breakbeat hardcore scenes. He released a variety of singles under the pseudonym Rufige Kru and co-founded the label Metalheadz. He later released several albums under his own name, including the 1995 album '' Timeless'', which entered the UK charts at number 7. Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century. Record Mirror
''Record Mirror'' was a British weekly music newspaper between 1954 and 1991 for pop fans and record collectors. Launched two years after the ''NME'', it never attained the circulation of its rival. The first UK album chart was published in ''Record Mirror'' in 1956, and during the 1980s it was the only consumer music paper to carry the official UK singles and UK albums charts used by the BBC for Radio 1 and ''Top of the Pops'', as well as the US ''Billboard'' charts. Drum and bass (also written as drum & bass or drum'n'bass and commonly abbreviated as D&B, DnB, or D'n'B) is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by fast breakbeats (typically 165–185 beats per minute) with heavy bass and sub-bass lines, samples, and synthesizers. ''Saturnz Return'' is the second studio album by Goldie, released on 27 January 1998. The album entered the UK Albums Chart at 15, however only spent four weeks on the chart in total. The album received mixed reviews upon release, with particular negative attention paid to the hour-long opening track "Mother". Content and documentary The album opens with the hour-long piece "Mother", which includes a "30-piece string section" and "classically trained child singers" and was intended to sonically represent Goldie being put up for adoption at age three by his mother, being raised in multiple children's homes and by various foster parents, as well as his life in the public eye after the success of his first album and becoming addicted to cocaine.
