Belgian Railway Line 25
The Belgian railway line 25 is the oldest railway line in Belgium. It connects Belgium's two main cities: Brussels and Antwerp. The section between Brussels and Mechelen was completed in on May 5, 1835 and was the first railway in Belgium and the first public passenger steam railway on the European continent. On May 3, 1836, the second section between Mechelen and Antwerp was opened. It was extended to Luchtbal in the north of Antwerp in 2007 in order to shorten the route from Amsterdam to Brussels. The total line runs . Over most of its length it is paralleled by so that four tracks are available. During business hours, line 25 serves fast trains while local trains use line 27. Diabolo Project
The Diabolo project created a new railway line serving Brussels National Airport. It is so called because of its shape, resembling a Chinese yo-yo: the line forms a chord between the Brussels-Leuven line 36 going east and the new Brussels-Antwerp line 25N going north, and connects with them via a triangular junction at each end. Its addition to the network permits a much more flexible airport railway service to be provided: as well as mainline trains going north and east, future high-speed services between London, Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne could call there. This would make Brussels National Airport a fully-fledged international railway station on the model of Amsterdam's Schiphol or Paris' Charles de Gaulle. Antwerpen-Luchtbal Railway Station
Antwerp-Luchtbal is a railway station in the north of the city of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium. The station opened on 1 February 1932 on the Antwerp–Lage Zwaluwe railway, known in Belgium as Line 12; Line 27A, a freight line to the port of Antwerp; and HSL 4. History The station was originally located on the Manchesterlaan but this station was closed and a new station opened on the Groenendaallaan. This was in connection with the opening of the High Speed Line to the Netherlands ( Line 4). Train services continued via Antwerpen-Dam to the Central Station until December 2011, however due to ongoing infrastructure work only freight trains operate via this route and the stations are now closed to passenger traffic.
