Belgian Historical Institute In Rome
The Belgian Historical Institute in Rome ( nl, Belgisch Historisch Instituut te Rome, french: Institut historique belge de Rome, it, Istituto storico belga di Roma), founded 1902, is a scholarly research institute focused on the study of Roman, and more broadly Italian, history and antiquities. It is currently located in the Academia Belgica and is one of a number of Roman Historical Institutes. Foundation The idea for the foundation of a Belgian historical institute in Rome for the identification and publishing of Italian sources relating to Belgian history came from the ecclesiastical historian Alfred Cauchie, professor at the Catholic University of Leuven. He published a pamphlet to this effect in 1896. The institute was founded in 1902, in the Palazzo Rusticucci-Accoramboni, with Ursmer Berlière as its first director. Academia Belgica
The Academia Belgica is an academic organization. The goal of the Academy is to promote the cultural, scientific and artistic cooperation between Italy and Belgium. The organization was founded in 1939 when the Belgian princess Marie-José married the Italian crown prince Umberto. The Academy is also the seat of the Belgian Historical Institute in Rome and of the foundation princess Marie-José, which supports historical research. Camille Tihon
Camille Tihon (1890–1972) was a Belgian archivist and historian. Life Tihon was born in Remicourt, Belgium, on 25 June 1890. He studied at the University of Liège under Eugène Hubert and Karl Hanquet, graduating with a doctorate for a thesis on the rule of Robert of Berghes as Prince-Bishop of Liège.''La Principauté et le Diocèse de Liège sous Robert de Bergues, 1557-1564'' (Liège, 1923). Ludo (; ) is a strategy board game for two to four players, in which the players race their four from start to finish according to the rolls of a single die. Like other cross and circle games, Ludo is derived from the Indian game Pachisi. The game and its variations are popular in many countries and under various names. Léon-Ernest Halkin
Léon-Ernest Emmanuel Marie Joseph Halkin (1906–1998) was a Belgian historian, a supporter of the Walloon Movement, and a member of the Resistance during World War II. Life Léon-Ernest Halkin was born in Liège on 11 May 1906, the son of the classicist Léon Halkin and Elvire Courtoy. He was raised in an academic milieu, with both his father and his uncle Joseph Halkin professors at University of Liège, and was educated under the Jesuits at the Collège Saint-Servais. He matriculated at the university in 1923. Charles Terlinden

Life Terlinden was born in Schaerbeek on 6 July 1878. He studied law at Saint-Louis University Faculty in Brussels, and at the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Louvain. He followed this in 1906 with a second thesis on William I of the Netherlands and the Catholic Church in Belgium, making him a triple doctor. He was called up in 1914 and saw action at Melle. Joseph Cuvelier
Joseph Cuvelier (1869–1947) was a Belgian archivist and historian. Roman Historical Institutes are collegiate bodies established at Rome, for the purpose of historical research, mostly in the Vatican archives. These have been set both by ecclesiastical authority, and by national governments. Henri Pirenne
Henri Pirenne (; 23 December 1862 – 24 October 1935) was a Belgian historian. A medievalist of Walloon descent, he wrote a multivolume history of Belgium in French and became a prominent public intellectual. Pirenne made a lasting contribution to the study of cities that was a controversial interpretation of the end of Roman civilization and the rebirth of medieval urban culture. He also became prominent in the nonviolent resistance to the Germans who occupied Belgium in World War I. Charles Moeller (historian)
Charles Clément Auguste Moeller (1838–1922) was a Belgian historian.
