''Beings'' is the third studio album by British indie band Lanterns on the Lake. It was released 13 November 2015 under Bella Union. The album was met with praise from critics upon its release, earning a score of 79/100 on review aggregate site Metacritic, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Music critic Marcy Donelson, writing for AllMusic, awarded the album a score of 4 out of 5 stars and praised opener "Of Dust and Matter" as sounding reminiscent of Siouxsie Sioux, concluding that the album "dwells in a cloudy blend of dreams and creeping nightmares, unsettling yet captivating." In a review written by Joe Goggins, '' DIY'' magazine likewise awarded the album 4 stars, singling out the title track as a "standout" and commented that the group "is virtually without equal." Lanterns On The Lake
Lanterns on the Lake is an English indie rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The band is composed of Hazel Wilde, Paul Gregory, Bob Allan and Angela Chan. The group's material is released in Europe by Bella Union and by PIAS in the US. The band were nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2020 for their fourth studio album, '' Spook the Herd''. Formation and early work (2007–2010) Lanterns on the Lake formed in 2007 and was founded by core members Wilde & Gregory (and Ketteringham). They self-released two EPs and a single before signing to the Bella Union record label in December 2010. Soon after the band provided a track for Bella Union's Christmas 10" EP along with new label mates Peter Broderick and Philip Selway. Mandy Parnell is a British audio mastering engineer, founder and senior mastering engineer at Black Saloon Studios in London, England. Parnell has worked on projects with a wide variety of artists including Aphex Twin, The XX, Feist (singer), Feist, Sigur Rós, Sigur Ros, Bjork, The Knife, Frightened Rabbit and Brian Eno. Career Mandy Parnell studied music and music technology throughout her school, college and university years, training and working in recording studios, until landing an internship at a mastering studio where she worked her way up through the ranks. Susan Janet Ballion (born 27 May 1957), known professionally as Siouxsie Sioux, is an English singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. She was the lead singer of the rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees (1976–1996). Bella Union
Bella Union is a British independent record label founded in 1997 by Simon Raymonde and Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins. It is now run solely by Raymonde. History After releasing records with 4AD for a large part of their career, Cocteau Twins decided to start up the Bella Union record label in 1997, through which they could release their own work as well as any collaborative efforts. The band split up not long after, but instead of letting the newly formed label go under, Robin Guthrie, Simon Raymonde and their former manager Fiona Glyn-Jones decided to take charge of it.
