Aphra Behn
Aphra Behn (; bapt. 14 December 1640 – 16 April 1689) was an English playwright, poet, prose writer and translator from the Restoration era. As one of the first English women to earn her living by her writing, she broke cultural barriers and served as a literary role model for later generations of women authors. Rising from obscurity, she came to the notice of Charles II, who employed her as a spy in Antwerp. Upon her return to London and a probable brief stay in debtors' prison, she began writing for the stage. She belonged to a coterie of poets and famous libertines such as John Wilmot, Lord Rochester. Behn wrote under the pastoral pseudonym Astrea. During the turbulent political times of the Exclusion Crisis, she wrote an epilogue and prologue that brought her into legal trouble; she thereafter devoted most of her writing to prose genres and translations. Sosthenes Behn
Sosthenes Behn (January 30, 1884 – June 6, 1957) was an American businessman, and the founder of ITT. He held the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army. Biography Early years Sosthenes Behn was born in the island of St. Thomas, then part of the Danish West Indies. His ancestry was Danish on his paternal side, and French on his maternal side. Behn served in the United States Army and was commissioned a captain, Signal Corps, on June 19, 1917. He later achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, having served with distinction during World War I. Behn served with the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) in France until February 1919. He was given command of the 232nd Field Signal Battalion, Château-Thierry, Saint-Mihiel, Argonne. In recognition of his meritorious service during the war he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal (DSM). Waldemar Behn
Waldemar Behn or simply called BEHN is an alcoholic beverage family company (Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung) based in Eckernförde, Germany. It was established in 1892 and is now run by the fourth generation. It's also a local wholesaler ("BEHN-Getränke") and a producer of convenience food (Austrian affiliate "Nannerl"). BEHN established its first own liqueur brands in the 1950s but had to wait until 1992 to create a nationally recognized brand with the party drink Kleiner Feigling. In 2013 they bought Danish vodka brand Danzka from the French Marie Brizard Wine & Spirits/Belvedere corporation. Danzka boasts the fourth biggest vodka sales in duty free shops world wide, it is the first major foray abroad. Before the acquisition BEHN had a turnover of €43 million and 300 employees and grew with it by more than 50%. The company refrains from publishing updated numbers. Behn's Bat
Behn's bat, Behn's big-eared bat, or Behn's graybeard bat (''Glyphonycteris behnii'') is a species of bat in the family Phyllostomidae found in Brazil and Peru. It is known only from six specimens and is considered rare. It feeds on insects and small fruits. Taxonomy and etymology Behn's bat was described in 1865 by German naturalist Wilhelm Peters. Peters placed it in the now-defunct genus ''Schizostoma'' with a scientific name of ''Schizostoma behnii''. The holotype was collected in Cuiabá, Brazil. In 1898, Gerrit Smith Miller Jr. reclassified it, placing it in the genus ''Micronycteris''. In 1906, Knud Andersen placed it in ''Glyphonycteris'' but spelled the species name as ''behni''. Behn River
The Behn River or Behm River is a river in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The river rises on the Northern Territory and Western Australia border. The river then flows in a north-easterly direction through Behn Gorge and discharges into Lake Argyle. The tributary with the Ord River was the site of the original Argyle Downs homestead. Both the original tributary and the Argyle homestead site are now under the waters of Lake Argyle. The river has one major tributary; Bell Creek. The river was named on 7 August 1879 by Alexander Forrest, who was exploring the area at the time. Forrest's journal on 7 August 1879 records. Bevan Alexander Behn Wilson (born December 19, 1958) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played nine seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Black Hawks. He played in the 1980 Stanley Cup Finals. Playing career As a youth, Wilson played in the 1971 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Toronto. Wilson played his junior hockey in the OMJHL with the Ottawa 67's from 1975–1977, the Windsor Spitfires from 1976–1977, and the Kingston Canadians from 1977–1978. Wilhelm Friedrich Georg Behn (25 December 1808, Kiel – 14 May 1878, Dresden) was a German anatomist and zoologist. For eight years he was president of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Sarala Behn (born Catherine Mary Heilman; 5 April 19018 July 1982) was an English Gandhian social activist whose work in the Kumaon region of India helped create awareness about the environmental destruction in the Himalayan forests of the state. She played a key role in the evolution of the Chipko Movement and influenced a number of Gandhian environmentalists in India including Chandi Prasad Bhatt, Bimala behn and Sunderlal Bahuguna. Along with Mirabehn, she is known as one of Mahatma Gandhi's two English daughters. The two women's work in Garhwal and Kumaon, respectively, played a key role in bringing focus on issues of environmental degradation and conservation in independent India. Ari Mikael Behn (; , or ; 30 September 1972 – 25 December 2019) was a Norwegian author, playwright, and visual artist. Known as Mikael Bjørshol until 1996, Behn achieved early literary success with his 1999 short story collection ''Trist som faen'' ("Sad as hell"), which sold about 100,000 copies. Following his 2002 marriage to Princess Märtha Louise, he wrote four novels, two short story collections, one play and a book about his wedding, and took part in other creative and artistic endeavours such as the design of a china set named "Peacock".
