Before Dawn (1979–2006) was an American Champion racehorse bred and raced by Lucille Markey's Calumet Farm of Lexington, Kentucky. Racing career Trained by future U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee, John Veitch, in 1981 she was voted the American Champion Two-Year-Old Filly. During her two-year-old campaign, Before Dawn won five of her six starts against other fillies and finished second to her male counterpart in the Champagne Stakes. At age three in 1982, she won her first four starts before finishing third and second in her first Grade I competitions of the year. ''Before Dawn'' is a 1933 American pre-Code drama film directed by Irving Pichel and written by Garrett Fort. The film stars Stuart Erwin, Dorothy Wilson, Warner Oland, Dudley Digges and Gertrude Hoffman. It is one of the few Oland films from this period in which he does not play an Asian character. The film was released on August 4, 1933 by RKO Pictures. Plot Dying gangster Joe Valerie reveals the hiding place of a million dollars in loot to his physician Dr. Cornelius. The sinister Austrian doctor has designs on the money, but must first outwit detective Dwight Wilson and clairvoyant Patricia Merrick. The setting is an eerie, possibly haunted house in small-town America where the stash is hidden and the bodies begin to accumulate. Kōzaburō Yoshimura
was a Japanese film director. Biography Born in Shiga Prefecture, he joined the Shōchiku studio in 1929. He debuted as director in 1934, but continued working as an assistant director for such filmmakers as Yasujirō Ozu and Yasujirō Shimazu after that. It was the 1939 film ''Warm Current'' that established his status as a director. During the Sino-Japanese war he directed a number of military dramas such as '' The Legend of Tank Commander Nishizumi'' (1940), for which he toured the actual battlefields in China. His 1947 work '' The Ball at the Anjo House'', starring Setsuko Hara, was named the best picture of the year by ''Kinema Junpo''. This film marked the start of a long relationship with the screenwriter and film director Kaneto Shindō. In 1950, the two of them started the independent production company Kindai Eiga Kyokai.
