Beauty For Freedom
Beauty for Freedom is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness and funds to fight human trafficking. Some of its main programs include art therapy and photography for victims of trafficking. History Beauty for Freedom was founded in 2014 by Monica Watkins and Jerry Chu. Watkins founded the organization after seeing the amount of human trafficking that took place in Haiti after the 2010 Haiti earthquake. It was initially founded to raise awareness and funds for other non-profits involved in human trafficking rescue, but later expanded into its own programs involving art and photography. The organization is made up of people from various industries including fashion, art, and entertainment. In 2015, it launched a creative arts program which sends artists to areas with youth affected by trafficking to conduct therapy art. 2010 Haiti Earthquake
A disaster, catastrophic Moment magnitude scale, magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake struck Haiti at 16:53 local time (21:53 UTC) on Tuesday, 12 January 2010. The epicenter was near the town of Léogâne, Ouest (department), Ouest department, approximately west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital. By 24 January, at least 52 aftershocks measuring 4.5 or greater had been recorded. An estimated three million people were affected by the quake. Challenging Heights
Challenging heights is a non-governmental organization in Ghana protecting the rights of children and focusing their anti-trafficking efforts in the fishing and cocoa industry. According to Challenging Heights, over 24,000 children in Ghana fall victim to the worst forms of child labour annually. Challenging Heights aim is to end Child Trafficking in the next 5 years through Rescue & Recovery, Prevention, and Advocacy. ''Rescue & Recovery''- Challenging Heights conduct a number of rescue missions each year, rescuing dozens of children. Through tips from community members, they identify children who have been trafficked to Lake Volta. Trafficking of children is a form of human trafficking and is defined by the United Nations as the "recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, and/or receipt" kidnapping of a child for the purpose of slavery, forced labour and exploitation. This definition is substantially wider than the same document's definition of "trafficking in persons". Children may also be trafficked for the purpose of adoption. Though statistics regarding the magnitude of child trafficking are difficult to obtain, the International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that 10,000 children are trafficked each year. Transnational efforts to prevent human trafficking are being made to prevent human trafficking in specific countries and around the world. Human trafficking has often had a negative connotation, and has been viewed as an unwanted activity by different countries around the world. These countries have formed organizations, laws, and educational programs geared towards the prevention of human trafficking. Having many countries involved in the prevention of human trafficking gives this subject a transnational approach. In this article, transnational will be defined as an issue that crosses international boundaries that multiple nations are experiencing and addressing at the same time.
