Beaumont is a city in Riverside County, California, United States, located at the summit of the San Gorgonio Pass, between the San Bernardino Mountains and Mount San Gorgonio to the north, and the San Jacinto Mountains and San Jacinto Peak to the south. Early native American inhabitants included the Serrano and Cahuilla people, who still live on reservation lands in the area. Beaumont is bordered on the east by the city of Banning, on the south by the city of San Jacinto, on the west by the city of Calimesa, and on the north by the unincorporated community of Cherry Valley. It is accredited by the Ohio Department of Education, the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges, and the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association. It is a part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. History While Beaumont has existed since 1942 at its current location, the former 21-acre estate of famed banker Kenyon Painter, it traces its origin to 1850, making it the oldest school in the Cleveland Diocese and the oldest secondary school in Cleveland. It continues to operate under the original Ohio state charter granted in 1854 to the Ursuline Sisters for the education of young women. The current location sits adjacent to the 279-acre Shaker Lakes parklands, a designated National Environmental Education Landmark. Beaumont High School was a public, co-educational secondary school in the Beaumont Independent School District in Beaumont, Texas from 1898 to 1975. History In 1884, two buildings were used by the district for schools: the Old Fireman Hall and the Negro Odd Fellows Hall. Beginning in 1898 a superintendent was hired, new school buildings were constructed and funds were budgeted for their maintenance. Beaumont High School graduated a class of three on June 1, 1900, in a ceremony at the Kyle Opera House. Ida Lillian Pittman was valedictorian; Ludlow Calhoun, class salutatorian; and Harry Potter Jirou, class essayist. The title of Miss Pittman's valedictory address was "Some Women of History." The cornerstone for the first building used primarily for high school students was laid on January 11, 1904 at College and Neches streets. Beaumont Independent School District is a U.S. public school district serving Beaumont in Southeast Texas. The district originated in the annexation of the former Beaumont ISD by the South Park Independent School District after its trustees voted in 1983 to dissolve it as the culmination of a struggle over desegregation of both districts. The original Beaumont ISD had previously absorbed the smaller French ISD. As of February 2018, the district operates 28 schools: a Headstart center, a pre-kindergarten center, 14 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 2 high schools, and 3 specialized and alternative learning centers.
