Bazel
Bazel is a village in Belgium, in the municipality of Kruibeke in the province of East Flanders. The village is home to the Wissekerke Castle. The municipality of Bazel merged into Kruibeke in 1977. Overview The parish church was founded in the early 10th century. The village was located on the medieval road from Lille to Antwerp. From 1640, the village started develop. The Wissekerke Castle is located in the village. The castle originates from the 10th century, however it burnt down, and was rebuilt in the 15th century. For two centuries, it was owned by the Vilain XIIII Vilain and Vilain XIIII (pronounced ''Vilain-Quatorze'' , sometimes written with the more standard Roman numerals Vilain XIV) is a Belgian noble family. Bazel () is a free software tool used for the automation of building and testing software. The company Google uses the build tool ''Blaze'' internally and released an open-sourced port of the Blaze tool as Bazel, named as an anagram of Blaze. Bazel was first released in March 2015 and achieved beta status by September 2015. Similar to building tools like Make, Apache Ant, or Apache Maven, Bazel builds software applications from source code using a set of rules. Rules and macros are created in the Starlark language (previously called Skylark), a dialect of Python. There are built-in rules for building software written in the programming languages of Java, C, C++, Go, Python, Objective-C, and Bourne shell scripts. De Bazel is a listed/protected historic building on the west side of the Vijzelstraat in Amsterdam (at number 32), and stretches from the Herengracht to the Keizersgracht. It stands as an example of Brick Expressionism. History The building was the most important work of the Dutch architect Karel de Bazel and was built from 1919 to 1926 as the head office of the Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij (NHM).Rijksmonument report The architect died in 1923, three years before completion. Construction was continued by his ''chef de bureau'' C. van de Linde, together with designer Adolf Leonard van Gendt. Sculptures on the outside of the building are by Joseph Mendes da Costa, Lambertus Zijl and Hendrik A. van den Eijnde. The stained glass windows were made by Joep Nicolas after designs by Antoon Derkinderen.
