Battle Of The Bulge (1991 Film)
''Battle of the Bulge'' is a Canadian comedy short film, directed by Arlene Hazzan Green and released in 1991. An exploration of women's body image issues, the film stars Suzanne Cyr as Victoria, a woman whose obsession with thinness results in the creation of Vanna (Deborah Kirshenbaum), a significantly fatter alter ego who shows up to taunt Victoria whenever she looks in a mirror or eats food, with their battle of wills building until breaking out into an epic food fight. The film received selected film festival screenings, including winning the awards for Best Drama Under 30 Minutes and Best Script at the 1992 Yorkton Film Festival, but was distributed primarily as an episode of Global Television Network's First Time Producers Series of short films by emerging directors. Douglas Koch
Douglas Koch is a Canadian cinematographer who has won honours at the Canadian Screen Awards and Canadian Music Video Awards. Koch is from Vancouver and studied film at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto, finishing in 1983. He went on to shoot music videos for artists such as Anne Murray and Sarah McLachlan, winning a cinematography award at the MuchMusic Video Awards in 1994 for "And if Venice Is Sinking". The Global Television Network (more commonly called Global, or occasionally Global TV) is a Canadian English-language terrestrial television network. It is currently Canada's second most-watched private terrestrial television network after CTV, and has fifteen owned-and-operated stations throughout the country. Genie Award
The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards (1949–1978; also known as the "Etrog Awards," for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed the statuette). Genie Award candidates were selected from submissions made by the owners of Canadian films or their representatives, based on the criteria laid out in the ''Genie Rules and Regulations'' booklet which is distributed to Academy members and industry members. Peer-group juries, assembled from volunteer members of the Academy, meet to screen the submissions and select a group of nominees. Academy members then vote on these nominations. A short film is any motion picture that is short enough in running time not to be considered a feature film. Yorkton Film Festival
Yorkton Film Festival (YFF) is an annual film festival held in late May in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. In 1947, the Yorkton Film Council (YFC) was founded and in 1950 the first international documentary film festival officially opened in western Canada on 11 October. The festival originally was named Yorkton International Documentary Film Festival and latter become known as Yorkton International Film Festival. In 1969, the Yorkton Film Council disbanded and the Yorkton International Film Festival Society was formed. The film festival went through several name changes and currently operates as Yorkton Film Festival. It is known as the longest running film festival held in North America.
