Battle Of Länkipohja
The Battle of Länkipohja () was a Finnish Civil War battle fought in the village of Länkipohja (now part of the Jämsä municipality) on 16 March 1918 between the Whites and the Reds. Together with the battles fought in Kuru, Ruovesi and Vilppula between 15 and 18 March, the Battle of Länkipohja was one of the first military operations related to the Battle of Tampere, which was the decisive battle of the Finnish Civil War. The battle is known for its bloody aftermath as the Whites executed 70–100 capitulated Reds. One of the executions was photographed and the images have become one of the best known pictures of the Finnish Civil War. Background The village of Länkipohja is located by the Tampere–Jyväskylä highway, 60 kilometers northeast of Tampere which was the main base for Red Guards on the Tavastia Front. Lieutenant General Count Wilhelm Archibald Douglas (19July 1883 – 5July 1960) was a Swedish Army officer and nobleman who served as Chief of the Army from 1944 to 1948. Early life Douglas was born on 19 July 1883 at Stjärnorp Castle, Östergötland County and was the second of four sons of Count Ludvig Douglas, Marshal of the Realm, and Countess Anna Louise Dorotea (née Ehrensvärd). His younger brother, Count Carl Douglas (1888–1946), was a chamberlain, and his elder brother Robert (1880–1955), a nobleman in Germany, married dowager Queen Augusta Victoria of Portugal, widow of King Manuel II. Nils Palme
Nils Palme (26 February 1895 – 6 January 1963) was a Swedish military officer and landowner. Nils Palme was the son of and Swedish-speaking Finnish , the brother of Olof and and the paternal uncle of late Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme. He was an officer at Göta Artillery Regiment before he became head of the fourth battery at the Artillery School in Jakobstad. During the hunger- and military demonstrations in 1917 in Gothenburg, he contributed to force down the demonstrations. During the Finnish Civil War, he participated on the white side as battery manager to the Battle of Länkipohja and Battle of Tampere.
