Bathytoma
''Bathytoma'' is a genus of deep-water sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Borsoniidae. Fossil records This genus is known in the fossil records from the Paleocene to the Quaternary (age range: from 55.8 to 0.781 million years ago). Fossils are found in the marine strata throughout the world. Distribution This marine species occurs in the Eastern Indian Ocean (Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa); off Indonesia, New Caledonia, Panglao Island, Sulu Sea, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna, Bohol, Kerala, New Zealand, Philippines, Sea of Japan; off Australia (New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia). They are all known from deep waters from 100 m to about 1500 m, but usually at 200–700 m. Description The lines of specific distinction appear to be drawn narrowly in this genus and to depend chiefly upon sculpture. The novelty appears intimately related to ''Bathytoma engonia'' (Watson, 1881) differing by the sharper keel, more elevated tubercles and gen ...

Bathytoma Atractoides
''Bathytoma atractoides'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Borsoniidae. Description The size of an adult shell varies between 39 mm and 75 mm. (Original description) Shell.—Fusiform, biconical, very slightly and bluntly angulated, with a scarcely convex base, elongated into a largish, slightly reverted, rather equal-sided snout. Sculpture. Longitudinals :there are no ribs; but the close-set, hair-like lines of growth, at nearly regular intervals over the whole surface, rise into thread-like folds which score the shell rather markedly. Spirals—near the bottom of each whorl there is a slight keel on the line of the old sinus-scars It includes two, bluntly rounded, close-set threads, which are crenulated by a series of small squarish tubercles which, being arranged in pairs, one on each thread and placed one above the other, form short little bars. They are parted by furrows broader than they. There are about forty of these bar ...

Bathytoma Engonia
''Bathytoma engonia'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Borsoniidae. Description The size of the shell varies between 15 mm and 35 mm. (Original description) The fusiform shell is biconical, with an expressed rounded keel angulating the whorls, and a broad prominent lopsided beak. Sculpture : There are no axial ribs. The lines of growth are strong, hair-like, unequal, and close-set. On the keel they are exceptionally strong, regular, and a little remote, as they are also at the top of the whorls in the suture. The whorls are angulated about the middle, projecting in a rather narrow, prominent, rounded keel, almost crenulated by growth-lines. The whole surface is covered by small, broadish, rounded, close-set spiral threads, somewhat granulated at the base. On the left side of the point of the beak and also on the earlier regular whorls they tend to become obsolete. Colour: porcellanous - white. The thin, membranaceous epidermis ...

Bathytoma Agnata
''Bathytoma agnata'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Borsoniidae. Description The size of an adult varies between 17 mm and 38 mm. (Original description) The solid shell is fusiform and biconical. Each spire whorl is prominently angled at its centre by a tuberculate keel. In the series before us the proportion of length to breadth varies considerably. The shell has eight whorls, including a protoconch of a whorl and a half. The ground colour of the shell is pale cream with an evanescent purple tinge in the aperture. Sculpture : the suture is slightly puckered by small radiating folds which run out before reaching half way to the keel. Along the keel are prominent wide spaced tubercles, numbering on the penultimate about seventeen, each truncated in front and sloping at the back to the base of its predecessor. Behind the aperture these sometimes degenerate into crowded imbricate scales. Below the keel the radial sculpture is resu ...
