Barbara Ann Brown (October 18, 1901 – July 7, 1975) was an American actress. Early life Barbara Brown was born in 1901 in Los Angeles, California, to Selma C. (née Teutschmann) and Edward Brown. Her mother was the daughter of German immigrants. Career Brown began acting on the stage in California. In 1922, she had leading roles in Oliver Morosco's productions ''Wait Till We're Married'' and ''Abie's Irish Rose''. She went on to act in Broadway plays such as ''Relations'' (1928), ''Mother Lode'' (1934), ''Play, Genius, Play!'' (1935), ''Behind Red Lights'' (1937), ''Sun Kissed'' (1937), ''Our Town'' (1938), and ''Liberty Jones'' (1941). Brown began appearing in films in the early 1940s. She played Mrs. Delfina Acuña, the mother of Rita Hayworth's character, in ''You Were Never Lovelier'' (1942), starring Fred Astaire and Hayworth. Barbara B. Brown (1921–1999) was a research psychologist who popularized biofeedback and neurofeedback in the 1970s. ''Biofeedback Magazine,'' a publication of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB), noted that she was "among the first and most successful to make the public aware of the power and potential of biofeedback." Brown earned her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1950. She went from a technician at the William S. Merrell division of pharmaceutical company Richardson-Merrell to heading Merell's Department of Pharmacology. From there, she went to Riker Laboratories, then to Psychopharmacology Research Laboratories. Barbara Elaine Russell Brown (February 14, 1929 - January 7, 2019) was an American biologist and philanthropist. Personal life Brown was born Barbara Russell, on 14 February 1929 in Chicago; her parents were Jewish immigrants from Romania and Russia. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in economics. In 1953, she married Roger Brown; they went on to have six children together. She moved to Highland Park, IL shortly after marrying, where the couple purchased five acres of undeveloped orchard, woodland, and marsh within the suburb, later adding five more acres to accommodate their children and dogs. Barbara enriched her community by joining the Highland Park Library Board, serving the city's Environmental Commission, as a guide at the Heller Nature Center, and by volunteering at elementary schools and extracurriculars. Barbara Illingworth Brown was an American biochemist. She worked primarily at Washington University in St. Louis. Education and career Brown was born in Hartford, Connecticut and later moved to Pennsylvania when her father's job in insurance moved the family. Brown graduated from Smith College in 1946. She worked with Jane Anne Russell at Yale University and received her PhD in physiological chemistry in 1950. Following her Ph.D., Brown applied to work with the Nobel Prize-winner Gerty Cori and became a Research Associate Professor of Biochemistry at Washington University in St. Louis and Established Investigator of the American Heart Association. She later also worked with Cori's husband and fellow Nobel Prize winner Carl Ferdinand Cori. She retired in 1989. Barbara and the Browns were an American soul and gospel vocal group, fronted by Barbara Brown (died 3 February 2010) who also recorded as a solo singer. The group were from Memphis, Tennessee, and originally comprised Barbara Brown with her sisters Roberta, Betty, Maurice, and brothers Walter and Richard writing some of their material. In 1963 they auditioned with Chips Moman, intending to record gospel music, but Moman persuaded them to record his secular song "Big Party". The song was released as a single on Wilmo Records, and after it became locally successful the master was leased to Stax Records. The record rose to # 97 on the '' Billboard'' Hot 100 during a period when no R&B chart was being published. Stax released two more singles by the group, "In My Heart" and "I Don't Want Trouble" in 1964–65, but neither were commercially successful. Barbara Brown's titi monkey (''Callicebus barbarabrownae''), also popularly known as the blond titi monkey or northern Bahian blond titi, is a species of titi, a type of New World monkey. This critically endangered species is endemic to the Caatinga in northeastern Brazil, and it is estimated that less than 250 mature individuals remain. It is named after the zoologist Barbara Elaine Russell Brown. Home range The blonde titi monkey is listed as Critically Endangered due to small population size. The blond titi monkey is endemic to the Atlantic forests of eastern Brazil, where it is found in the coastal highlands of Bahia and Sergipe States. Most of their population is found between the Paraguaçu River (north) and Salvador (south), and west towards Mirorós. The estimated population is 260 individuals and is decreasing.
