Barbara Lillias Romaine Anderson, Lady Anderson (, 14 April 1926 – 24 March 2013) was a New Zealand fiction writer who became internationally recognised and a best-selling author after her first book was published in her sixties. Career Born Barbara Lillias Romaine Wright in Hastings, she was educated at the University of Otago where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1947. In 1951, she married Neil Anderson, a Royal New Zealand Navy officer later to become Chief of New Zealand Defence Staff. They had two sons. After a career as a medical technologist and as a teacher, she went back to university in Wellington, New Zealand, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Victoria University of Wellington in 1984. Barbara Jeanne Anderson is an American retired actress. She is best known for her role as police officer Eve Whitfield on the television series '' Ironside'' (1967–1971), which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award. Early life Anderson was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her father, George Anderson, was a Navy enlisted man. She spent her early years in New York City, but during her teenage years, she resided in Memphis, Tennessee, where her parents had moved. Anderson became interested in acting during her teens, when she did a Tennessee Williams play. While she was a student at Memphis State University, Anderson won the title of Miss Memphis in 1963. Barbara Anderson is a British athlete who won five gold medals at the Paralympic Games. A multi-discipline athlete, Anderson found particular success in class 1 swimming events in which she won three of her gold medals. Her other two gold medals came in table tennis both as an individual and with Jane Blackburn in the women's doubles. The was a UK-registered ocean liner that was torpedoed by an Imperial German Navy U-boat during the First World War on 7 May 1915, about off the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland. The attack took place in the declared maritime war-zone around the UK, shortly after unrestricted submarine warfare against the ships of the United Kingdom had been announced by Germany following the Allied powers' implementation of a Blockade of Germany, naval blockade against it and the other Central Powers. The passengers had been warned before departing New York of the danger of voyaging into the area in a British ship. The Cunard liner was attacked by commanded by ''Kapitänleutnant'' Walther Schwieger. After the single torpedo struck, a second explosion occurred inside the ship, which then sank in only 18 minutes. Barbara Jane Anderson is a New Zealand ecologist. Education Anderson graduated with a PhD in botany from the University of Otago, Dunedin, in 2006. Research and career Beginning in 2015, Anderson co-ordinates a citizen science project, the Ahi Pepe MothNet project which encourages members of the public to engage with moths at Orokonui Ecosanctuary. The project brought public attention to the role of moths in the ecosystem and also provides schoolchildren and adults with an experience of "hands-on" science. As a result of the interest in the project, a bilingual Māori–English guide to New Zealand moths was published in 2018. In 2017, a group of Dunedin schoolchildren were invited to present their experiences of the project to the World Indigenous People's Conference on Education in Toronto. Barbara Anderson (1943 – April 8, 2016) was an anti-tax activist. She was eulogized by Governor of Massachusetts Charlie Baker for her contribution to reducing property, income and excise taxes for state citizens (moving Massachusetts from the sixth-heaviest taxed state to the 36th).
