Banten ( id, Banten; Sundanese: , romanized ''Banten'') is the westernmost province on the island of Java, Indonesia. Its capital city is Serang. The province borders West Java and the Special Capital Region of Jakarta on the east, the Java Sea on the north, the Indian Ocean on the south, and the Sunda Strait (which separates Java from the neighbouring island of Sumatra) on the west. The Human Development Index (HDI) is a statistic composite index of life expectancy, education (mean years of schooling completed and expected years of schooling upon entering the education system), and per capita income indicators, which is used to rank countries into four tiers of human development. Sundanese Banten or Bantenese (''Basa Sunda Banten'' or ''Basa Wewengkon Banten'') is one of the Sundanesic languages dialect spoken predominantly by the Bantenese —an indigenous ethnic group native to Banten— in the westernmost hemisphere of Java island, and in the western Bogor Regency (especially in Jasinga, the districts of Cigudeg, Tenjo, Nanggung, Parungpanjang, and Sukajaya), as well as the northwestern parts of Sukabumi Regency.
