Bandi (writer)
Bandi (; born 1950) is the pseudonym used by an anonymous North Korean writer. Bandi was born in 1950 in China to Korean parents who had moved there fleeing the Korean War. Bandi grew up in China before the family moved back to North Korea. In the 1970s, Bandi managed to publish some of his early writing in North Korean publications. After the death of Kim Il Sung in 1994 and the hardship that followed, Bandi lost several people close to him to North Korean famine, the famine and North Korean defectors, defections. These developments made Bandi disillusioned with the North Korean system and he started to write dissident literature. The opportunity to publish his dissident writing presented itself when Bandi's friend from Hamhung defected to China. Although the friend could not risk taking the manuscripts with her, she promised that she would find a way to bring them abroad. Bandi Rajan Babu (9 February 1938 – 25 August 2011) was an Indian photographer. He is known for his black and white pictures of tribal people. He owned the Rajan School of Photography. Early life Bandi Rajan Babu was born at Korutla, in the Karimnagar district ( Jagtial district) of the Indian state of Telangana. Early life Rajan took to serious photography in 1960 after joining the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. Rajan Babu was all set to become a painter until given a Kodak camera. Gbandi (or Bandi, Bande, Gbande, Gbunde, Gbandi) is an ethnic group of Liberia. History The Gbandi people, one of sixteen of Liberia's original ethnic groups, originated from Sudan in the late 17th century. Some may have also migrated, along with the Mende ethnic group, as political refugees from Guinea in the mid-16th century due to the Mandingo expansion. After moving to Liberia, the Gbandi settled in the county of Lofa, in the northern part of the country. The Gbandi are bordered by the Kissi, Mende, Gola, Kuwaa and Loma peoples. The Bandi language, also known as Bande, Gbande, Gbandi and Gbunde, is a Mande language. It is spoken primarily in Lofa County in northern Liberia by the Gbandi people. Bandi has six dialects: Hasala, Hembeh, Lukasa, Wawana, Wulukoha, and Tahamba, which is the dialect used for literature. The dialects have a lexical similarity of 96% among one another, and 83% with the most similar dialect of the Mende language.
