Bamboo (Filipino Band)
Bamboo was a Filipino alternative rock band formed in 2003 by lead vocalist Bamboo Mañalac, bassist Nathan Azarcon, lead and rhythm guitarist Ira Cruz and drummer Vic Mercado. Band origin Francisco "Bamboo" Mañalac serves as the band's frontman. Ira Cruz, the band's guitarist claimed that the name of the band was not just derived from their vocalist's name but also from the word ''bamboo'', the characteristics of which are associated with strength and durability with an island feel to it. Also, it's very Filipino and Asian at the same time. Two of its members, Bamboo Mañalac and Nathan Azarcon, were formerly part of Rivermaya. Nathan Azarcon
Nathan Peter Hachero Azarcon (born January 29, 1975) is a Filipino musician, nationalist, songwriter, and producer. He is currently the bassist, vocalist and one of the founding members of Filipino rock band Rivermaya. He was also a member of the rock bands Pinikpikan, Kapatid and a founding member of Bamboo and Hijo (where he is the lead vocalist). His complete body of work includes hits produced while he was a member of four different bands. In recognition of his work, he has been honored by NU Rock Awards; Katha Music Awards; MTV Pilipinas Music Awards; and the Awit Awards, which are presented and organized by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI). "Tatsulok" (''Filipino word literally translated to'' Triangle; ''paraphrased as'' Pyramid) is a Filipino folk song originally composed by Rom Dongeto in 1989 and performed in 1991 by his trio folk-rock band, called "Buklod", which includes Noel Cabangon and Rene Boncocan. The song explains to a young man that there's an ongoing war and that the war is just the effect of a bigger problem. It tells the young man to take action and topple a pyramid upside-down to end a never-ending war between the rich and the poor.
