Balzam-class Intelligence Ship
The Balzam class, Soviet designation Project 1826 is a class of Spy ship, intelligence collection ships built in the Soviet Union for the Soviet Navy during the 1980s. They are also known as Lira class, after the first vessel of the class. Design and role Built by the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad, they the first Soviet vessels specifically designed to gather Signal intelligence, SIGINT and Signals intelligence#COMINT, COMINT electronic intelligence via an extensive array of sensors. The data could be transmitted to shore via satellite link antennas housed in two large radomes. They were the first Soviet AGIs to be armed, carrying one AK-630 CIWS gun system and Strela Anti-aircraft warfare, anti-aircraft missiles. Primor'ye-class Surveillance Ship
The Primor'ye class are a group of spy ship, spy ships built for the Soviet Navy. Two ships are operated by the Russian Navy. The Soviet designation was ''Project 394B''. CIWS
A close-in weapon system (CIWS ) is a point-defense weapon system for detecting and destroying short-range incoming missiles and enemy aircraft which have penetrated the outer defenses, typically mounted on a naval ship. Nearly all classes of larger modern warships are equipped with some kind of CIWS device. There are two types of CIWS systems. A gun-based CIWS usually consists of a combination of radars, computers, and rapid-firing multiple-barrel rotary cannons placed on a rotating turret. Missile-based CIWSs use either infra-red, passive radar/ ESM, or semi-active radar terminal guidance to guide missiles to the targeted enemy aircraft or other threats.
