Bahrain participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Bahrain first competed at the Asian Games in 1982 Delhi, and has collected 58 medals in all - 25 gold, 17 silver, and 16 bronze until the last Games in 2014 Incheon. Birhanu Balew (born 27 February 1996) is an Ethiopian-born long-distance runner representing Bahrain. He reached the final of the Athletics at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's 5000 metres, 5000 m event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Athletics career Birhanu started competing internationally in 2015. In 2016 Birhanu competed in his first Olympic Games at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. He placed 9th in the men's 5000m Final clocking a time of 13:09.26. Kalkidan Gezahegne (born 8 May 1991) is an Ethiopian-born Bahraini middle- and long-distance runner. She is the 10,000 metres 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medallist. 11 years earlier, at age 18, Gezahegne became the youngest ever female World indoor champion when winning 1500 metres. 17-year-old Gezahegne won a silver medal over the 1500m at the 2008 World Junior Championships.
