Laverne Eve
Laverne Eve (born 16 June 1965, in Nassau) is a female track and field athlete from the Bahamas, who competes in the javelin throw. Her personal best throw (new javelin) is 63.73 metres, achieved in April 2000 in Nashville. In her early career she also competed in shot put and discus throw. 30 years after starting her career, she still throws at a high level. Eve was a member of the Louisiana State University track and field team. The Bahamas sent a delegation of athletes to compete in the 2008 Summer Olympics, which were held in Beijing, People's Republic of China from 8 to 24 August 2008. Its Beijing appearance marked its fourteenth time at the Olympics since its début at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. The delegation included 25 athletes across four sports (track and field, boxing, swimming and tennis) and nineteen distinct events. Its athletes advanced to semifinals in eight events and finals in five events, medaling in two of them (a silver in men's 4x400 meters relay by Andretti Bain, Michael Mathieu, Andrae Williams, Chris Brown, Avard Moncur and Ramon Miller, and a bronze in men's triple jump by Leevan Sands). Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace (born March 4, 1990) is a competitive swimmer and national record-holder from the Bahamas who has represented her country in international championships, including the Olympics, FINA world championships, and Pan American Games. She swam for the Bahamas at the 2008 Olympics and was the first Bahamian ever to make the final of their event. She attended Auburn University in the United States, where she swam for the Auburn Tigers swimming and diving team in collegiate competition. Alana Kathryn Dillette (born December 2, 1987) is an academic and Olympic swimmer from The Bahamas. Dillette swam for the Bahamas at the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as at the 2007 Pan American Games. She attended and swam for the USA's Auburn University. At the 2007 Pan American Games she was part of the bronze medal winning women's 4 × 100 m medley relay alongside Alicia Lightbourne, Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace and Nikia Deveaux. Chandra Sturrup (born September 12, 1971) is a Bahamian track and field sprint athlete. Career She is a 100m specialist and the Bahamian record holder for the women's 100m with a personal best of 10.84 set in Lausanne, Switzerland on July 5, 2005. Sturrup is an alumnus of Norfolk State University, and has taken part in almost every major event since 1991 after the birth of her son, Shawn Murray Jr. For most of her career, she was coached by Trevor Graham. Sturrup competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing at the 100 metres sprint. In her first-round heat she placed first in front of Kelly-Ann Baptiste and Lina Grincikaite in a time of 11.30 to advance to the second round. 2007 Pan American Games
The 2007 Pan American Games, officially known as the XV Pan American Games, were a major continental multi-sport event that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from July 13 to 29, 2007. A total of 5,633 athletes from 42 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competed in 332 events in 34 sports and in 47 disciplines. During the Games, 95 new Pan American records were set; 2,196 medals were awarded; 1,262 doping control tests were performed and about 15,000 volunteers participated in the organization of the event, which was an Olympic qualification for 13 International Federations (IFs).
