Badminton At The 1988 Summer Olympics
Badminton was an exhibition sport at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. There were five events: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. Competitions took place at the Seoul National University Gymnasium on 19 September 1988. Qualification The competitors were selected according to the results of the 1987 IBF World Championships. Han Aiping
Han Aiping (; April 22, 1962 – October 16, 2019) was a Chinese badminton player in the 1980s who ranks among the greats of the woman's game. Noted for her superb overhead strokes, she and her teammate, rival, and sometimes doubles partner Li Lingwei dominated international singles play for most of the decade, each winning the IBF World Championships twice, and led Chinese teams to victory in Uber Cup (women's world team) competitions. Amy Chan Lim Chee
Amy Chan MBE ( zh, p=Chén Niàncí, t=陳念慈; also known as Chan Lim Chee; born 27 June 1961) is a retired badminton player from Hong Kong who won gold medals in World championships and Commonwealth games. About Chan has two brothers and one sister (Chen Aici), who grew up in the East Block of North Point New Village on Hong Kong Island in her early years. Her father was a clerk. She graduated from Ho Tung Government Industrial Girls' High School (now renamed Ho Tung Middle School) in 1980, and then enrolled in Luo Phu Quoc Education College, and completed the physical education course in 1983. Shi Fangjing () is a former world level women's badminton player from China. Career A doubles specialist, Shi Fangjing won both women's doubles and mixed doubles at the Polish Open consecutively in 1985 and 1986, each with a different partner. Career He specialized in mixed doubles, winning almost all of his significant international titles partnership with Shi Fangjing. Park Joo-bong (Hangul: 박주봉; Hanja: 朴柱奉; born 5 December 1964) is a former badminton player from South Korea who excelled from the early 1980s through the mid-1990s. Career Park is one of the most successful players ever in the World Badminton Championships with 5 titles, 2 of them in men's doubles and 3 in mixed doubles. He also won a gold and a silver medal at the Summer Olympics and 9 All England Open Badminton Championships titles. Though Park was primarily a doubles player, the greatest one ever in the opinion of some, he was capable of world class level singles which he displayed in occasional tournaments and Thomas Cup appearances early in his career and currently holds the South Korean national record of 103 consecutive wins in men's singles from 1981 to 1984. Lin Ying (, or Lam Ying in Cantonese, born 1963) is a Chinese former badminton player and one of the most successful doubles specialists in the sport's modern history. During her 9-year career representing China's national badminton team, she won women's doubles at many world class tournaments and played on China's dominant Uber Cup teams of the 1980s.
