Bad Boy is a song written by Lil Armstrong and Avon Long. It became a hit for The Jive Bombers in 1957. The Jive Bombers were an American R&B group from New York City. The Jive Bombers consisted of members of two previous vocal groups, Sonny Austin & the Jive Bombers and The Palmer Brothers. They first recorded under the name The Sparrows in 1949 for Coral Records, and changed their name to The Jive Bombers in 1952 to record for Citation Records. Their 1957 Savoy Records single " Bad Boy", co-written by Avon Long and Lil Hardin, was a hit in the U.S., peaking at No. 7 on the R&B Singles chart and No. 36 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Lil Armstrong
Lillian Hardin Armstrong (née Hardin; February 3, 1898 – August 27, 1971) was an American jazz pianist, composer, arranger, singer, and bandleader. She was the second wife of Louis Armstrong, with whom she collaborated on many recordings in the 1920s. Her compositions include "Struttin' with Some Barbecue", "Don't Jive Me", "Two Deuces", "Knee Drops", "Doin' the Suzie-Q", "Just for a Thrill" (which was a hit when revived by Ray Charles in 1959), "Clip Joint", and " Bad Boy" (a hit for Ringo Starr in 1978). Avon Long
Avon Long (June 18, 1910 – February 15, 1984) was an American Broadway actor and singer. Biography Long was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Frederick Douglass High School, where he was especially influenced by the Latin teacher and drama coach, Nellie A. Buchanan. Long performed in a number of Broadway shows, including ''Porgy and Bess'' (as Sportin' Life in the 1942 revival), and ''Beggar's Holiday'' (1946). Long and Lena Horne co-introduced the Harold Arlen–Ted Koehler composition "As Long As I Live" in ''Cotton Club Parade'' (1934) when Horne was only 16 years old. He reprised his role of Sportin' Life in the 1951 Columbia recording of ''Porgy and Bess'', the most complete recording of the opera issued up to that time. Mink DeVille was a rock band founded in 1974, known for its association with early punk rock bands at New York's CBGB nightclub and for being a showcase for the music of Willy DeVille. The band recorded six albums in the years 1977 to 1985, after which it disbanded the next year. Except for frontman Willy DeVille, the original members of the band played only on the first two albums ('' Cabretta'' and '' Return to Magenta''). For the remaining albums and for tours, Willy DeVille assembled musicians to play under the name "Mink Deville". Sha Na Na
Sha Na Na was an American rock and roll doo-wop group. Formed in 1969, but performing a song-and-dance repertoire based on 1950s hit songs, it simultaneously revived and parodied the music and the New York street culture of the 1950s. After gaining initial fame for their performance at Woodstock, made possible with the help of their friend Jimi Hendrix, the group hosted ''Sha Na Na'', a syndicated variety series that ran from 1977 to 1981. Billing themselves as "from the streets of New York", members were frequently outfitted in gold lamé or leather jackets and sported pompadour or ducktail hairdos. The group's name was taken from a series of nonsense syllables ("Sha Na Na Na Sha Na Na Na Na") in the song " Get a Job", originally recorded by the Silhouettes. David Roger Johansen (sometimes spelled ''David Jo Hansen''; born January 9, 1950) is an American singer, songwriter and actor. He is best known as a member of the seminal proto-punk band the New York Dolls. He is also known for his work under the pseudonym Buster Poindexter, and for playing the Ghost of Christmas Past in '' Scrooged''. Early life Johansen was born in the New York City borough of Staten Island to a librarian mother, Helen, and an insurance sales representative father, who had previously sung opera. His mother was Irish American and his father was Norwegian American.
