George Archainbaud
George Archainbaud (May 7, 1890 – February 20, 1959) was a French-American film and television director. Biography In the beginning of his career he worked on stage as an actor and manager. He came to the United States in January 1914, and started his film career as an assistant director to Emile Chautard at the World Film Company in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In 1917 he made his own directorial debut '' As Man Made Her''. During the next three and a half decades he directed over one hundred films. After the beginning of the 1950s he moved to television. While working at RKO Radio Pictures in the beginning of the 1930s, he showed some artistic and skillful eye with many of his films. Jean Laverty (born Gladys Laverty, and also known as Jean Bary) was an American actress active in Hollywood in the 1920s and 1930s. Biography Early life Jean was born in Blue Lake, California, to Henry Laverty and Helen Douarin. While growing up in the small village in Humboldt County, she found herself drawn to the theater. She acted in her high school's plays and was said to have caused an argument between students and faculty by posing for glamorous flapper-style photographs in the school's student newspaper. When she was 18, she was persuaded by a visiting woman stage director to run away from home and pursue a career as an actress. Hollywood career She eventually found work as a model and broke out as an actress on the Orpheum vaudeville circuit. Sylvia Ashton
Sylvia Ashton (January 26, 1880 – November 18, 1940) was an American film actress of the silent film era. Ashton was born in Denver, Colorado. She bore a heavyset resemblance to Jane Darwell and like Darwell was playing mother and grandmother roles, though more famously than Darwell in the silents, while still in her 30s and 40s. In 1912, Ashton was an actress in D.W. Griffith's stock company. After that, she acted for Famous Players-Lasky. For years she was a regular member of Cecil B. DeMille's troupe of character actors. She appeared in more than 130 films between 1912 and 1929. She retired from movies almost immediately at the dawn of sound, one of her later films being the part-sound film ''The Barker'' (1928). Ashton died on November 18, 1940, aged 60. James Finlayson (actor)
James Henderson Finlayson (27 August 1887 – 9 October 1953) was a Scottish actor who worked in both silent and sound comedies. Bald, with a fake moustache, Finlayson had many trademark comic mannerisms and is known for his squinting, outraged, "double take and fade away" head reaction, and characteristic expression "d'ooooooh", and as the best remembered comic foil of Laurel and Hardy. Finlayson was known by a variety of nicknames. According to Laurel and Hardy scholar Randy Skretvedt, he "called himself Jimmy, was known around the lot as Jim and is usually referred to today as 'Fin'"Skretvedt, p. 77 – as a truncated version of his surname, as author John McCabe presented it in his 1961 book biography ''Mr. Laurel & Mr. Hardy ''.
