"Baby, Baby (I Know You're a Lady)" is a song made famous by country music singer David Houston. Originally released in 1969, the song represented a first and a last. The last was that it was Houston's seventh (and final) No. 1 hit on the ''Billboard magazine'' Hot Country Singles chart; the song spent four weeks atop the chart. The song was also the first time up-and-coming Nashville songwriter Norro Wilson had one of his compositions hit number one; it was a shared credit with co-writer Alex Harvey. During the next four decades, Wilson would become one of country music's most prolific songwriters and producers. He wrote hits for singers including Charley Pride, Charlie Rich, Jean Shepard, Tammy Wynette and others; his production credits would include songs by Pride, Joe Stampley, Wynette, Kenny Chesney, Sara Evans, Janie Fricke, Reba McEntire and others. David Houston (singer)
Charles David Houston (December 9, 1935 – November 30, 1993) was an American country music singer. His peak in popularity came between the mid-1960s and the early 1970s. His biggest success came in 1966, when his recording of " Almost Persuaded", topped the ''Billboard's'' Hot Country Singles chart for nine weeks, and garnered Houston a pair of Grammy Awards. Biography Houston was born in Bossier City in northwestern Louisiana, United States. He was a descendant of Sam Houston, the first president of the Republic of Texas and Confederate General Robert E. Lee. His godfather was 1920s pop singer Gene Austin. Like Austin, Houston lived briefly as a youth in a house at the intersection of Marshall and Goodwill streets in Minden, the seat of Webster Parish in northwestern Louisiana. Joe Stampley
Joe Stampley (born June 6, 1943) is an American country music singer. He had success as the lead singer of a rock group, in a country duo with Moe Bandy and as a solo performer. Stampley has released over 20 albums and more than 60 singles in a career that spans seven decades. In 2000, he formed Critter Records. Biography He was born in Springhill, Louisiana, United States, to R. C. Stampley, Jr. (1920–2000) and Mary E. Stampley (1924–2004). Stampley befriended Merle Kilgore when he was aged 15 and they started writing songs together. Kilgore arranged for Stampley to record two sides with Imperial Records, and the resulting single, "Glenda" (1959), sold well locally but not elsewhere. The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts.
