BUX (band)
BUX was an American hard rock/ boogie rock band that is best known for having lead guitarist Punky Meadows and bassist Mickie Jones both of whom joined Angel, and lead singer Ralph Morman who was with the Joe Perry Project from 1979–1980 and Savoy Brown from 1980–1982. Origins James Newlon formed Daddy Warbux, a Cape Cod-based outfit in 1967. Under this guise the band consisted of vocalist Sheba Coates, Newlon (known as 'The Wheel'), bassist Jerry Stroup and ex-Fate drummer Tommy Bonriggio. Coates departed in 1972 for a covers act Cortege and former Richie & the Renegades man Bob Leger filled the position. As Daddy Warbux, the band toured America supporting Brits Humble Pie. A later addition to the line up was keyboard player/vocalist Wiley Crawford. Re-billed as BUX the band was signed to Frank Connolly, then Aerosmith manager. We Came To Play
''We Come to Play'' was the first and only album released by BUX in 1976. The album was originally recorded in 1973 but Capitol decided not to release it. In 1976, however, when lead guitarist Punky Meadows and bassist Mickie Jones had success with their band Angel, Capitol tried to cash in and finally released ''We Come to Play''. The album is an interesting affair blending hard rock and the standard boogie band approach with varied results. "White Lightning", which later became a featured cut on Angel's third album, is included here with different lyrics and is interesting for its historical value. Jack Douglas (record Producer)
Jack Douglas is an American record producer. He is known for his work with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, and the New York Dolls, among other rock artists in the 1970s and 1980s; notably he produced three successful albums for Aerosmith. Early life and education Jack Douglas was born in the Bronx in 1947, New York City. He was trained at the Institute of Audio Research and was a member of its first graduating class. Career Starting out as a folk musician and performer, he worked on Robert F. Kennedy's 1964 senatorial campaign as a songwriter. Douglas then moved to England and joined a succession of bands before returning to New York to attend the Institute of Audio Research. His first professional job was at the then-new Record Plant, not as a producer or engineer, but as a studio janitor. Foghat are an English rock band formed in London in 1971. The band is known for the use of electric slide guitar in its music. The band has achieved eight gold records, one platinum and one double platinum record, and despite several line-up changes, continue to record and perform. LA Guns
L.A. Guns is an American glam metal band from Los Angeles, formed in 1983. The lineup currently consists of Tracii Guns (lead guitar), Phil Lewis (lead vocals), Ace Von Johnson (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Johnny Martin (bass, backing vocals), Scot Coogan (live drums) and Adam Hamilton (studio drums). The first incarnation of the group was formed by Tracii Guns and Rob Gardner in 1983 and merged with fellow Los Angeles group, Hollywood Rose, to form Guns N' Roses in March 1985. After only a brief tenure in that band, Guns reformed L.A. Guns with a new lineup, consisting of Paul Black, Mick Cripps, Robert Stoddard, and Nickey Alexander. Black would soon be replaced by former Girl singer Phil Lewis while former Faster Pussycat bassist Kelly Nickels was added to the group. Steve Riley (drummer)
Steve Riley (born January 22, 1956) is an American rock drummer, best known for his work with Keel, W.A.S.P., and L.A. Guns. Career After graduating high school in the 70s, Riley moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music career. In 1979, he joined a revival of Steppenwolf, but the lineup broke up later that year. Riley joined up-and-coming L.A. band Keel and recorded their breakthrough album ''The Right to Rock'' with them in 1984. Later that year, Riley departed Keel to replace founding member Tony Richards in W.A.S.P., another L.A. band whose debut album had recently achieved gold status in sales. As a member of W.A.S.P., Riley performed on the albums '' The Last Command'', ''Inside the Electric Circus'', and '' Live...In the Raw''. Vocalist Ron Keel has described Riley as "driven to succeed and to play". New York Dolls
New York Dolls were an American rock band formed in New York City in 1971. Along with the Velvet Underground and the Stooges, they were one of the first bands of the early punk rock scenes. Although the band never achieved much commercial success and their original line-up fell apart quickly, the band's first two albums—'' New York Dolls'' (1973) and '' Too Much Too Soon'' (1974)—became among the most popular cult records in rock. The line-up at this time consisted of, vocalist David Johansen, guitarist Johnny Thunders, bassist Arthur Kane, guitarist and pianist Sylvain Sylvain, and drummer Jerry Nolan; the latter two had replaced Rick Rivets and Billy Murcia, respectively, in 1972. Angel is an American rock band from Washington, D.C., formed in the mid-1970s by Punky Meadows and Mickie Jones. They were primarily known for their flamboyant glam stage presence and white satin outfits. History Angel was discovered by Kiss bass player Gene Simmons performing at a nightclub and was eventually signed to the same label as Kiss, Casablanca. Angel's image of dressing in all white was a deliberate contrast to Kiss, who wore black. Angel sported an androgynous image and elaborate stage sets. They were slammed by rock critics, and Frank Zappa ridiculed the all-male band's feminine appearance in the song "Punky's Whips". Angel never achieved mass commercial success but acquired a following as a cult band. On Earth As It Is In Heaven
''On Earth as It Is in Heaven'' is the third album by the rock band Angel. It is the last album with Mickie Jones who had been the band's bass guitar player since its formation. It was produced by Eddie Kramer and recorded in an actual castle in the Hollywood Hills. "Cast the First Stone" and "Just A Dream" are very similar in sound to the songs on ''Angel'' and '' Helluva Band''. In fact, "Cast The First Stone" was written during the ''Helluva Band'' sessions. The band toured non-stop and it was during this time they made their only tour of Japan. The album peaked at #76 on the US Billboard charts. Lovember Records reissued ''On Earth...'' in a digitally remastered limited edition in August 2008.
