The G05 BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by German automaker BMW. It is the fourth and current generation of the BMW X5. It was launched in 2018 as the successor to the F15 X5. The BMW B48 is a turbocharged inline-four petrol engine which replaced the BMW N20 and has been in production since 2014. The Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform is a car platform developed by BMW. It is a modular platform that incorporates steel, aluminium, and optional carbon fibre. It is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive setups and debuted in the G11 7 Series in 2015. It is designed to accommodate a pure ICE drivetrain, has an optional 48-volt electrical system in a mild-hybrid configuration, but also supports plug-in hybrid and battery electric drivetrains. BMW sDrive is a single axle drive architecture that is purpose-built for sport-utility vehicles. Introduced by German automaker BMW as an option for the 2013 BMW X5 (F15), sDrive uses torque-vectoring and displacement mechanisms that optimise agility and efficiency. Today, sDrive is available on all of BMW's utility vehicles, from the X1 through X7. BMW xDrive is the marketing name for the all-wheel drive system found on various BMW models since 2003. The system uses an electronically actuated clutch-pack differential to vary the torque between the front and rear axles. Models with the DPC torque vectoring system also have a planetary gearset to overdrive an axle or rear wheel as required.
