BD Hotels
BD Hotels builds, owns and operates capsule hotels. It owns and operates 24 hotels in New York City, including the Blakely Hotel, the Maritime, the Bowery, and the Jane hotels. History BD Hotels was founded in 1986 by Richard Born and Ira Drukier who owned and managed ''The Pod'' hotel chain in New York. In the early 2000s, Born decided to develop hotels that carry small rooms but offer great location and style. The Pod51 opened in 2007 in the former Pickwick Arms Hotel. The second opened in the former men's club Allerton House on E. 39th St. BD Hotels purchased this building in 2010 for $28 million. Capsule Hotel
Capsule hotel ( ja, カプセルホテル, kapuseru hoteru), also known in the Western world as a pod hotel, is a type of hotel developed in Japan that features many small bed-sized rooms known as capsules. Capsule hotels provide cheap, basic overnight accommodation for guests who do not require or who cannot afford larger, more expensive rooms offered by more conventional hotels. The first capsule hotel in the world opened in 1979 and was the Capsule Inn Osaka, located in the Umeda district of Osaka, Japan and designed by Kisho Kurokawa. From there, it spread to other cities within Japan. Maritime Hotel
__FORCETOC__ The Maritime Hotel is a luxury boutique hotel located at 363 West 16th Street at Ninth Avenue in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, close to the Meatpacking District. It has 121 rooms and 5 suites, all decorated in a nautical theme, in line with the building's maritime history, and the porthole-inspired facade. Building New Orleans-based architect Albert C. Ledner designed three buildings for the National Maritime Union of America in the 1960s, all white buildings that prominently featured portholes as an architectural feature. The Bowery Hotel
The Bowery Hotel is a hotel at 335 Bowery, in the East Village, New York City, which was founded, developed and conceived of by the nightlife and hospitality impresario Eric Goode. The Jane
The Jane is a boutique hotel located at 505–507 West Street (Manhattan), West Street, with its main entrance at 113 Jane Street in the West Village section of the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. The building was originally the American Seamen's Friend Society Sailors' Home and Institute, a hotel for sailors built in 1906–08 and designed by William A. Boring in Georgian Revival architecture, Georgian style. The building featured a chapel, a concert hall, and a bowling alley, and a beacon which played over the river from the polygonal observatory. The hotel was used to house the survivors of the RMS Titanic, RMS ''Titanic'' while the American inquest into the sinking was held.
