Helsinki Seagulls is a professional basketball team, based in Helsinki, Finland. The club is playing in the Korisliiga, the highest tier of basketball in Finland. The Seagulls were founded in 2013 and made its debut in the Korisliiga in 2014, after promoting in its first season. The team has won the Finnish Cup three times. Korisliiga
The Korisliiga is the top-tier professional basketball league in Finland, comprising the top 12 teams of the country. In its current format, each team plays all other teams two times in the regular season, once at home and once away, for a total of 22 regular season games. The top six teams advances continues to upper stage and the bottom six teams plays lower stage after 22 games, 5 games at home and 5 games at away versus all other teams in stage. The best two teams from lower group joins to playoffs with upper group teams. Playoffs are played best of seven format, except the quarter-finals which are played best of 5 format. Pantterit holds the record for the most league titles won, with 14. The top level Finnish league for women is the Naisten Korisliiga. 2017–18 Korisliiga Season
The 2017–18 Korisliiga season was the 78th season of the top professional basketball league in Finland. The season started on 28 September 2017 and ended on 18 May 2018. Kataja Basket were the defending champions, but Kauhajoki Karhu achieved their first title ever. Format The eleven teams will play four teams against each one of the other teams for a total of 40 games. The eight best qualified teams will join the playoffs. Teams Espoo United promoted from First Division and no team was relegated. Regular season Standings Playoffs The quarter-finals and semi-finals were played in a best-of-three 1–1–1–1–1 format. The finals were played in a best-of-seven playoff format. Raymond Cowels III
Raymond Cowels III (born November 18, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for Legia Warszawa of the Polish Basketball League. He played college basketball for Santa Clara University before playing professionally in the Netherlands, New Zealand, Finland and France. High school career Cowels attended Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota where he led his team to 128 wins with only six losses while winning two state championships in 2006 and 2009, and earning All-State honors twice and all-conference three times. As a sophomore in 2006–07, he averaged 11 points and six rebounds per game as Hopkins made it to the section championship. Jason Conley (born July 21, 1981) is an American retired professional basketball player who last played for the Helsinki Seagulls in Finland in 2017. A shooting guard and small forward, Conley is best known for being the first freshman to ever lead NCAA Division I in scoring. Early life Jason Conley was born in San Antonio, Texas, and attended Montrose Christian School in Rockville, a perennial national high school basketball power that has sent many players to the Division I and professional levels. Antti Kanervo (born 12 April 1989) is a Finnish professional basketball player for the Helsinki Seagulls of the Finnish Korisliiga and the Finnish national basketball team. Playing career Professional career Kanervo started his career at Huänen in Äänekoski. He moved to BC Jyväskylä in spring 2007 and hit himself in the following season. Kotti attended Providence College in the United States, where he played college basketball between 2001 and 2005. 2021–22 Korisliiga Season
The 2021–22 Korisliiga season was the 82nd season of the top professional basketball league in Finland. Format The twelve teams played two times against each one of the other teams for a total of 22 games. The league splits into two groups (one with the first 6 teams and the other with the last 6 teams) and each team played two games against each one of the teams from the same group (for a total of 10 games). The six teams from the first group and the best two teams from the second group joined the playoffs. The last team would be directly relegated. Teams Ura Basket did not apply for a serial licence for the Men's Korisliiga for season 2021-2022. Ura Basket will be the Division I B team, where the club's own breeders will be able to represent Kaarina basketball at the national level.
