BBC Radio One Live In Concert (Dexys Midnight Runners Album)
''BBC Radio One Live in Concert'' was a live album by Dexys Midnight Runners, recorded for the BBC in 1982 and released in 1995. It was the group's first official live album and remained their only official live album until the release of '' The Projected Passion Revue'' in 2007 (from a 1981 recording). The album is unique as it is Dexys' only live recording where the members of '' The Projected Passion Revue'' horn section (Big Jim Paterson, Paul Speare, and Brian Maurice) are present alongside the '' Too-Rye-Ay'' strings (Helen O'Hara and Steve Brennan). Immediately after this concert, the horn section left the group and formed The TKO Horns. This concert is included in full (including one track, "I'll Show You", omitted from this release) on the second disc of the 2007 '' Too-Rye-Ay Deluxe Edition'' release. Dexys Midnight Runners (currently officially Dexys, their former nickname, styled without an apostrophe) are an English pop rock band from Birmingham, with soul influences, who achieved major commercial success in the early to mid-1980s. They are best known in the UK for their songs "Come On Eileen" and "Geno", both of which peaked at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart, as well as six other top-20 singles. "Come On Eileen" also topped the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, and with extensive airplay on MTV they are associated with the Second British Invasion. Van Morrison
Sir George Ivan Morrison (born 31 August 1945), known professionally as Van Morrison, is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose recording career spans seven decades. He has won two Grammy Awards. As a teenager in the late 1950s, he played a variety of instruments such as guitar, harmonica, keyboards and saxophone for several Irish showbands, covering the popular hits of that time. Known as "Van the Man" to his fans, Morrison rose to prominence in the mid 1960s as the lead singer of the Northern Irish R&B and rock band Them. Paul Speare
Paul George Speare (born 10 December 1955) is an English freelance saxophonist and flute player, formerly a member of Dexys Midnight Runners and The TKO Horns. He was born to Reginald and Julia Speare in Romford, Essex. He attended Dagenham County High School where he began playing drums, piano and viola when he was 15 years of age. At 16 he took up the flute, and tenor saxophone soon followed. He went on to study flute at the London College of Music and played saxophone in various pop and jazz bands during this time. Later, he moved to Birmingham and became heavily involved in the Midlands music scene for many years as a session musician, band leader and music producer. Speare has played in many bands over the years, and from 1981-1982 was a full-time member of Dexys Midnight Runners. Mickey Billingham
Mickey Billingham (also credited Micky Billingham) is an English Keyboard instrument, keyboardist. He was the former keyboardist of the pop rock band Dexys Midnight Runners. After the band broke up, he and another member, Andy "Stoker" Growcott, became co-founding members of New wave music, new wave band General Public, contributing to the band's debut studio album ''All the Rage (General Public album), All the Rage'' (1984). Billingham went on to play in The Beat (British band), the Beat with Ranking Roger and Everett Morton, who have both since died. As well as being in the Beat, Billingham also teaches singing and performance techniques at Dudley College in the West Midlands (county), West Midlands. Kevin Rowland
Kevin Rowland (born 17 August 1953) is a British singer and musician best known as the frontman for the pop band Dexys Midnight Runners (currently called ''Dexys''). The band had several hits in the early 1980s, the most notable being "Geno" and "Come On Eileen", both of which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. Early life Rowland was born in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton, on 17 August 1953 to Irish parents from Crossmolina, County Mayo, Ireland, and he lived for three years in Ireland between the ages of one and four before returning to Wolverhampton. The family moved to Harrow when he was 11 years old and he left school at the age of 15. Before his music career, Rowland worked as a hairdresser. Written by Kevin Archer and Kevin Rowland, it was the band's second single and their first UK number one, staying at the top of the Singles Chart for two weeks. Otis Ray Redding Jr. (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967) was an American singer and songwriter. He is considered one of the greatest singers in the history of American popular music and a seminal artist in soul music and rhythm and blues. "Respect" is a song written and originally recorded by American soul singer Otis Redding. It was released in 1965 as a single from his third album ''Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul'' and became a crossover hit for Redding.
