B. R. Rajam Iyer
B. R. Rajam Iyer (or Aiyar; 1872–1898) was an Indian lawyer and writer who wrote in Tamil and English. He is the author of '' Kamalambal Saritharam'', an early Tamil novel. Iyer was deeply interested in religion and philosophy and edited an English magazine, ''Prabuddha Bharata'', from 1896. The magazine was started at the behest of Swami Vivekananda. He authored ''Kamalambal Saritharam'' between 1893 and 1895. ''Kamalambal'' is one of the earliest Tamil novels written after ''Prathapa Mudaliar Charithram ''Prathapa Mudaliar Charithram'' ( en, The Life of Prathapa Mudaliar), written in 1857 and published in 1879, was the first novel in the Tamil language. Rajam Iyer
Rajam is a town in Vizianagaram District of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a nagar panchayat and the headquarters of Rajam mandal. It is situated at a distance of 51 Km from the district headquarters. The place has nostalgic association with Thandra Paparaya, the valiant Sardar of Bobbili and who is credited with slaying of Vijayaramaraju, the Maharaja of Vijayanagaram at the end of the battle of Bobbili in 1757. Prathapa Mudaliar Charithram
''Prathapa Mudaliar Charithram'' ( en, The Life of Prathapa Mudaliar), written in 1857 and published in 1879, was the first novel in the Tamil language. Penned by Samuel Vedanayagam Pillai (1826-1889), it was a landmark in Tamil literature, which had hitherto seen writings only in poetry. The book gave birth to a new literary genre and Tamil prose began to be recognized as an increasingly important part of the language. The author was the munsif (a 'Village President' with some judicial powers) of Mayuram (present day Mayiladuthurai near Thanjavur). Influenced by Western ideas of women's liberation and secularism, he set out to publish works that projected his ideals. His first publication was ''Pen Kalvi'' ("Female Education"), which he addressed to his daughters. Swami Vivekananda
Swami Vivekananda (; ; 12 January 1863 – 4 July 1902), born Narendranath Datta (), was an Indian Hindu monk, philosopher, author, religious teacher, and the chief disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna. He was a key figure in the introduction of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world; and is credited with raising interfaith awareness, and bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion.
