B. A. Rolfe
Benjamin Albert Rolfe (October 24, 1879 – April 23, 1956) was an American musician known as "The Boy Trumpet Wonder" who went on to be a bandleader, recording artist, radio personality, and film producer. Biography He was born on October 24, 1879, in Brasher Falls, New York, the son of Albert Rolfe, founder of one of the first dance orchestras in the United States. At 8 years of age he played the piccolo and cornet in his father's band, touring the U.S. east coast and Europe. After high school, he worked as a musical clown in a traveling circus until joining the Majestic Theater Orchestra in Utica, New York. At the Utica Conservatory of Music he was head of the brass instrument department. Drawn back to show business in the early part of the 20th century, he worked in vaudeville, producing a revue and serving as bandleader. Dyreda Art Film Corporation, also known as Dyreda Films, was a silent film production company in the U.S. Its productions included films about the World War I. It was bought out by B. A. Rolfe in 1915. Dyreda was formed by Frank L. Dyer, , J. Parker Read, Jr., and J. Searle Dawley. Dawley wrote and directed the studio's first two films. He worked at Famous Players before Dyreda. The Reliance Company studios in Yonkers, New York were used for filming and Irvin Willat headed the camera department. Robert Nicholls was in charge of stage carpentry. Broadway () is a road in the U.S. state of New York. Paul Samuel Whiteman (March 28, 1890 – December 29, 1967) was an American bandleader, composer, orchestral director, and violinist. As the leader of one of the most popular dance bands in the United States during the 1920s and early 1930s, Whiteman produced recordings that were immensely successful, and press notices often referred to him as the "King of Jazz". His most popular recordings include "Whispering (song), Whispering", "Valencia (song), Valencia", "Three O'Clock in the Morning", "In a Little Spanish Town", and "The Parade of the Tin Soldiers, Parade of the Wooden Soldiers". Vincent Lopez
Vincent Lopez (December 30, 1895 – September 20, 1975) was an American bandleader, actor, and pianist. Early life and career Vincent Lopez was born of Portuguese immigrant parents in Brooklyn, New York City, United States, Distinguished Americans & Canadians of Portuguese Descent and was leading his own dance band in New York City by 1916. On November 27, 1921, his band began broadcasting on the new medium of entertainment radio; the band's weekly 90-minute show on the Newark, New Jersey, station WJZ boosted the popularity of both himself and of radio. The ''Ziegfeld Follies'' was a series of elaborate theatrical revue productions on Broadway in New York City from 1907 to 1931, with renewals in 1934 and 1936. They became a radio program in 1932 and 1936 as ''The Ziegfeld Follies of the Air''. Founding and history Inspired by the Folies Bergère of Paris, the Ziegfeld Follies were conceived and mounted by Florenz Ziegfeld Jr., reportedly at the suggestion of his then-wife, the stage actress and singer Anna Held. ''Man and Woman'' is a 1920 American silent drama film produced by A. H. Fischer, Inc. Directors were Charles Logue and B. A. Rolfe with Gene O'Donnell and Conrad Wells (as A. Fried) as cinematographers. Logue wrote the story and the screenplay. Plot A young Civil engineer builds a bridge that later collapses which causes him to mentally collapse. He retreats to a South Pacific Ocean island and becomes a beachcomber. Later one of his former engineering supervisors comes to the island with his daughter to repair a lighthouse. Metro Pictures Corporation was a motion picture production company founded in early 1915 in Jacksonville, Florida. It was a forerunner of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The company produced its films in New York, Los Angeles, and sometimes at leased facilities in Fort Lee, New Jersey. It was purchased in 1919.
