Azza Besbes
Azza Besbes ( ar, عزة بسباس; born 28 November 1990) is a Tunisian sabre fencer, five-time African champion. She took part in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics, finishing 7th, 9th and 5th respectively. Personal life Besbes was born in a sports family: her father Ali is a former basketball player, who became a physical education teacher; her mother Hayet Ben Ghazi is a former foil fencer, who became an international referee. Her parents settled in Abu Dhabi before she was born. They had all their children–daughters Azza, Sarra, Héla and Rym, son Ahmed Aziz–take up fencing. Sarra competed in the women's épée at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Career Besbes took up fencing when she was six. She was first given a foil, but she found the weapon too quiet and switched to sabre under the coaching of Yan Nowara. The sabre (US English: ''saber'', both pronounced ) is one of the three disciplines of modern fencing. The sabre weapon is for thrusting and cutting with both the cutting edge and the back of the blade (unlike other modern fencing weapons, the épée and foil, where the methods of making a hit are scored using only the point of the blade). The informal term ''sabreur'' refers to a male fencer who follows the discipline; ''sabreuse'' is the female equivalent. Junior World Fencing Championships
The World Cadets and Juniors Fencing Championships are an annual international fencing competition held by the International Fencing Federation. History Junior World Fencing Championships for athletes up to 20 years old. Also at the same time and venue as the Cadet World Fencing Championships held for athletes up to 17 years old. The first Junior World Fencing Championships were held in Nîmes, France in 1950. Team events have been held since 1998. Women compete in foil since 1955, in épée since 1989, and in sabre since 1999. Sarra Besbes ( ar, سارة بسباس; born 5 February 1989) is a Tunisian épée fencer, seven-time gold medallist at the African Fencing Championships. She represented Tunisia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, placing eighth, and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, placing fifth. Foil (fencing)
A foil is one of the three weapons used in the sport of fencing, all of which are metal. It is flexible, rectangular in cross section, and weighs under a pound. As with the épée, points are only scored by contact with the tip, which, in electrically scored tournaments, is capped with a spring-loaded button to signal a touch.
