Aztec Hill
Aztec Hill (foaled in February 1990 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. The daughter of Proud Truth is probably best remembered for posting a half length score as the favorite over Traverse City in the mile and an eighth Grade II $200,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on May 14, 1993. That win was the first half of only the second Black-Eyed Susan/Preakness Stakes Double won in history by the same trainer and owner combo. Racing career In mid-January 1993, Aztec Hill won The Busanda Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack run among three-year-old fillies at a mile and 70 yards under jockey Mike E. Smith in 1:42 2/5. Proud Truth
Proud Truth (1982–2005) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. He is most notable for his win in the 1985 Breeders' Cup Classic. Background Proud Truth was bred by Dorothy Galbreath, wife of prominent horseman John W. Galbreath, at their Darby Dan Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. He was trained by John M. Veitch. Racing career Proud Truth made two winning starts at age two. At three, he was one of the early favorites for the Kentucky Derby after he won the Fountain of Youth Stakes and Florida Derby. In his next start, he finished second in the Flamingo Stakes. In the Flamingo, Chief's Crown crossed the wire first but was disqualified for interference, moving Proud Truth up to the winning position. The owners of Chief's Crown then appealed to the Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering, which overturned the disqualification. Graded Stakes Race
A graded stakes race is a thoroughbred horse race in the United States that meets the criteria of the American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA). A specific grade level (I, II, III or listed) is then assigned to the race, based on statistical analysis of the quality of the field in previous years, provided the race meets the minimum purse criteria for the grade in question. In Canada, a similar grading system is maintained by the Jockey Club of Canada. Graded stakes races are similar to Group races in Europe but the grading is more dynamic in North America. The grading system was designed in 1973 and first published in 1974. The original purpose of grading was to identify the most competitive races, which helps horsemen make comparisons of the relative quality of bloodstock for breeding and sales purposes. Prairie Bayou
Prairie Bayou (March 4, 1990 – June 5, 1993) was an American Thoroughbred Champion racehorse owned and bred by Loblolly Stable of Lake Hamilton, Arkansas. Named for a bayou between Little Rock and Hot Springs in Arkansas, he was sired by Little Missouri and out of the mare Whiffling. Owned by Loblolly Stable, after Prairie Bayou's success on the racetrack, including the 1993 Preakness Stakes, Calumet Farm purchased Whiffling in foal to Danzig for $1,050,000 at the 1994 Keeneland November Sale. Early racing career At age two Prairie Bayou won a maiden race and an allowance race. He went on to place second in his next two starts in stakes races. Aaron Gryder
Aaron Tod Gryder (born June 5, 1970, in West Covina, California) is an American Thoroughbred horse racing jockey. Career At age 16 in 1986, Gryder began his career as a professional jockey in Tijuana, Mexico at Agua Caliente Racetrack. His first winner came in 1987 at Agua Caliente aboard Ragen Henry. Gryder returned to the United States to ride at Santa Anita Park. His first win came on long shot horse with no left eye named One Eyed Romeo. He later rode at Hollywood Park as an apprentice jockey, and became the first and only apprentice jockey to ever win the Leading Rider title in the track's 75-year history. Aqueduct Racetrack is a Thoroughbred horse racing facility and casino in the South Ozone Park, Queens, South Ozone Park and Jamaica, Queens, Jamaica neighborhoods of Queens, New York City, United States.
