East Kilbride
East Kilbride (; gd, Cille Bhrìghde an Ear ) is the largest town in South Lanarkshire in Scotland and the country's sixth-largest locality by population. It was also designated Scotland's first new town on 6 May 1947. The area lies on a raised plateau to the south of the Cathkin Braes, about southeast of Glasgow and close to the boundary with East Renfrewshire. The town ends close to the White Cart Water to the west and is bounded by the Rotten Calder Water to the east. Immediately to the north of the modern town centre is The Village, the part of East Kilbride that existed before its post-war development into a New Town. East Kilbride is twinned with the town of Ballerup, in Denmark. History and prehistory The earliest-known evidence of occupation in the area dates as far back as the late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age, as archaeological investigation has demonstrated that burial cairns in the district began as ceremonial or ritual sites of burial during the Neolithic, ...

Somewhere In My Heart
"Somewhere in My Heart" is a song by Scottish band Aztec Camera. It was released as the third single from their third studio album, ''Love'' (1987). The song was produced by Michael Jonzun and written by Roddy Frame. Released as a single in 1988, the track peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart and became a top-40 hit in Australia and Ireland. The music video was directed by John Scarlett-Davis and produced by Nick Verden for Radar Films. Background Frame said in 2014 that the song has been "great" for him, but at the time of creating the album, the song was not "in keeping" with the rest of Love. Frame revealed in a radio interview with the "Soho Social" programme, presented by Dan Gray, that he considered "Somewhere In My Heart" an odd song and initially thought it would be best as a B-side. Around this time, Frame had became somewhat of a recluse, living in a remote wooden shack in Hollywood, Marple Bridge, in the hills above Manchester, "going through periods of g ...

Frestonia (album)
''Frestonia'' is the sixth and final studio album by the Scottish band Aztec Camera, released in 1995. Roddy Frame's subsequent releases would be under his own name. The title of the album refers to the community of Frestonia, in the Notting Hill district of London. ''Frestonia'' was the lowest-charting Aztec Camera album in the United Kingdom, reaching No. 100, whereas all previous releases made the top 30. "Sun", the only single, failed to chart. Critical reception ''The Independent'' determined that "apart from one or two highlights ... it's pretty dull fare, with desultory, predictable arrangements doing their best to avoid trampling over the lyrics." '' The Record'' deemed the album "a repulsive bit of narcissism that can't even make a claim for tragic portent; instead, it just sounds like the work of a poser." In 2021, ''Pitchfork'' wrote: "Less musically adventurous than its predecessor, Aztec’s 1995 album ''Frestonia'' is strongest in its softest moments, trading the ...

Dreamland (Aztec Camera Album)
''Dreamland'' is a studio album by the alternative rock band Aztec Camera, released in 1993. The album peaked at No. 21 on the UK Albums Chart. Critical reception ''Trouser Press'' wrote that Roddy Frame "approaches a nirvana of cerebral passion on 'Valium Summer', 'Let Your Love Decide' and other ethereal treats." In a 2021 review of an Aztec Camera collection, ''Pitchfork'' thought that "''Dreamland'' isn’t completely devoid of the indie rock arrangements that characterized earlier Aztec Camera releases, and even its most experimental tendencies feel firmly at home within the band’s extended catalog." Stray (album)
''Stray'' is the fourth album by Scottish group Aztec Camera, released in June 1990 on WEA in the UK and on Sire Records in the US. ''Stray'' was praised for its diversity of songs and styles, and for the assured nature of Roddy Frame's lyrics (which had been considered the weak-point of some of his earlier material). Its understated production was also received positively, particularly coming after the group's previous album ''Love'', which sold well in the United Kingdom but had been criticised by some for being too sanitised and glossy. ''Stray'' peaked at No. 22 in the UK Albums Chart. The single "Good Morning Britain", a collaboration with Mick Jones, reached No. 19 in the UK Singles Chart. Critical reception In a 2013 review of Aztec Camera reissues, ''Uncut'' called ''Stray'' "the most inventive and durable Aztec Camera LP. Diverse, yes, but it’s exhilarating to hear Frame switching-up from plaintive balladry ('Then Over My Head') to the BAD-influenced 'Good Morni ...
