Azmi Khalid
Azmi bin Khalid ( Jawi: بيسريء @ عزمي بن خالد; born 13 December 1940) is a former member of the Parliament of Malaysia. He represented the constituency of Padang Besar in Perlis. He was also a minister in the federal Cabinet from 1999 to 2008, as a member of the United Malay National Organisation (UMNO) in the then-ruling Barisan Nasional coalition. Tan Sri Azmi's first ministerial appointment was as Minister of Rural Development, becoming the first Cabinet minister from Perlis. He became the Minister of Home Affairs in 2004, before moving to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in 2006. He lost his Cabinet position after the 2008 election for reasons tied to his involvement in political disruption in Perlis. He did not re-contest Padang Besar in the 2013 election. Malay Titles
The Malay language has a complex system of styles, titles and honorifics which are used extensively in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the southern Philippines. Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and several provinces in Indonesia regularly award honorary and life titles. What follows in this article is specific to the Malaysian system. The National Alliance ( ms, Perikatan Nasional; abbrev: PN) is a political coalition composed of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (GERAKAN). This coalition was preceded by the Malaysian Party Alliance Association, also known as the ''Persatuan Perikatan Parti Malaysia (PPPM)''. Perikatan Nasional was formed early in the 2020 Malaysian political crisis with the intention to replace the then-ruling Pakatan Harapan government. The 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Abdullah of Pahang, appointed Muhyiddin Yassin, then the de-facto leader of PN, as the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia, bringing the informal political alliance into government. 2008 Malaysian General Election
A general election was held on Saturday, 8 March 2008 for members of the 12th Parliament of Malaysia. Voting took place in all 222 parliamentary constituencies of Malaysia, each electing one Member of Parliament to the Dewan Rakyat, the dominant house of Parliament. State elections also took place in 505 state constituencies in 12 out of 13 states (excluding Sarawak) on the same day. The 11th Parliament was dissolved on 13 February 2008, and the following day, the Election Commission announced nominations would be held on 24 February, with general polling set for 8 March. The ''New Straits Times'' is an English-language newspaper published in Malaysia. It is Malaysia's oldest newspaper still in print (though not the first), having been founded as ''The Straits Times'' on 15 July 1845. The United Malays National Organisation (Malay: ; Jawi: ; abbreviated UMNO () or less commonly PEKEMBAR), is a nationalist right-wing political party in Malaysia. The Cabinet of Malaysia (Malay: ''Jemaah Menteri Malaysia'') is the executive branch of the Government of Malaysia. Led by the Prime Minister, the cabinet is a council of ministers who are accountable collectively to the Parliament.
