Ziaur Rahman
Lt. General Ziaur Rahman (19 January 1936 – 30 May 1981), was a Bangladeshi military officer and politician who served as the President of Bangladesh from 1977 to 1981. He was assassinated on 30 May 1981 in Chittagong in an army coup d'état. Rahman was a Bangladesh Forces Commander of BDF Sector 1 initially, and from June as BDF commander of BDF Sector 11 of the Bangladesh Forces and the Brigade Commander of Z Force from mid-July during the country's Independence war from Pakistan in 1971. He originally broadcast the Bangladesh declaration of independence on 27 March from Kalurghat radio station in Chittagong. After the war of Independence, Rahman became a brigade commander in Bangladesh Army, and later the deputy chief of staff and chief of staff of Bangladesh Army. Nurul Huq (naval Officer)
Nurul Huq (12 January 1936 – 25 January 2021) was the first chief of staff of the Bangladesh Navy. He was a Commander in the Pakistan Navy and post independence was promoted to Captain on being given the responsibility of the Bangladesh Navy. Iqbal Hasan Mahmud ( bn, ইকবাল হাসান মাহমুদ), also known as Tuku ( bn, টুকু), is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and a former state minister of power and agriculture during 2001–2006. Early life and background Mahmud was born into a Bengali Muslim family of Taluqdars in the village of Koyelgati in Sheyalkol Union, Sirajganj which was formerly in Pabna District, Pakistan. His father was Abdullah al Mahmood, a noted politician and former minister in East Pakistan, and his grandfather was Derazuddin Taluqdar. Career Mahmud served as the State Minister of Power in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party government from 2001 to 2006. Khandaker Abdul Baten (17 May 1946 – 21 January 2019) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a member of Parliament from Tangail-6. Early life Baten completed his education to the undergraduate level earning a B.A. with honours. Career Baten was a member of the Mukti Bahini during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. He was a politician of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal party who joined the Bangladesh Awami League in 1992, taking with him his followers. Some of the local Bangladesh Awami League politicians expressed disappointment when he joined. Muhammad Yusuf Ali (1923 – December 1998) was a Bangladesh politician. He was the first minister for Education and Cultural Affairs in the first cabinet of Bangladesh. Early life and education Ali was born in Farakkabad, Biral, Dinajpur in 1923. He matriculated in 1944 from Dinajpur Academy High School and intermediate exams from Ripon College. He got a Bachelor of Arts degree from Surendranath College and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Dhaka in 1953. He later earned a B.Law degree from University of Rajshahi and joined the Dinajpur district bar. Career Ali was a professor of Nawabganj College and afterwards at Surendranath College.
