Albert Azaryan
Albert Azaryan ( hy, Ալբերտ Ազարյան; born 11 February 1929) is a former Soviet Armenian artistic gymnast who competed internationally representing the Soviet Union. He is the 1956 and 1960 Olympic Champion on the still rings. Azaryan is the first gymnast to become an Olympic Champion in Rings twice, a feat that Akinori Nakayama would accomplish twelve years later and that no one else has matched since. He is the first person to do one of the rings most famous variations of the Iron Cross called the Azaryan Cross (not to be confused with the Azarian Roll to Cross), which incorporates a quarter turn to the side. Early life Azaryan was born on 11 February 1929 in Gharakilisa, Transcaucasian SFSR. His father died when he was 14. Azaryan had to leave school and work as an ironsmith to support his family. Eduard Azaryan
Eduard Azaryan ( hy, Էդուարդ Ազարյան, born 11 April 1958) is a former Soviet Armenian artistic gymnast. He is an Olympic Champion and four-time Soviet Champion. Azaryan was awarded the Honoured Master of Sport of the USSR title in 1980. He is the son of Albert Azaryan. Biography Eduard started gymnastics in his early childhood under the guidance of his father, a three-time Olympic champion Albert Azaryan. In 1978, Eduard Azaryan became USSR champion in the team all-around and joined the USSR national gymnastics team. Krikor Azaryan
Krikor Stepan Azaryan ( bg, Крикор Степан Азарян) (15 March 1934 – 14 December 2009) was a Bulgarian director. A Bulgarian Armenian, Azaryan was born in Plovdiv. He graduated from what is today the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia in 1966 and was a post-graduate student in Moscow and Saint Petersburg (then Leningrad) in the Soviet Union. He spent most of his career as a theatre director at the Theatre of the Bulgarian Army, though he has also worked for the Plovdiv Theatre, the National Theatre, the Satire Theatre and Theatre Sofia, as well as theatres in Moscow and Bitola. Mihran Azaryan
Mihran Azaryan (1876 in Izmit, Ottoman Empire – 1952 in Istanbul, Turkey) was an Ottoman Armenian and Turkish architect who is best known for having designed and constructed the Büyükada Pier and possibly the Izmit Clock Tower. He was the son of Bedros Azaryan, an Ottoman Armenian, who was a graduate of the Imperial School of Military Engineering in Hasköy, Constantinople. Mary Azarian (born 1940) is an American woodcut artist and children's book illustrator. She won the 1999 Caldecott Medal for U.S. picture book illustration, recognizing '' Snowflake Bentley'' by Jacqueline Briggs Martin. It tells about the life of Wilson Bentley. She lives in Calais, Vermont. She produces original prints and has illustrated over 50 books. Early life Azarian grew up on her grandfather's farm on the outskirts of Washington, DC.
