Ayr Burghs
Ayr Burghs was a district of burghs constituency of the House of Commons of Great Britain, House of Commons of the Parliament of Great Britain from 1708 to 1800 and of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1950. It elected one Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP), using the first-past-the-post voting system. Creation The British parliamentary constituency was created in 1708 following the Acts of Union, 1707 and replaced the former Parliament of Scotland burgh constituencies of Ayr (Parliament of Scotland constituency), Ayr, Campbeltown (Parliament of Scotland constituency), Campbeltown, Inveraray (Parliament of Scotland constituency), Inveraray, Irvine (Parliament of Scotland constituency), Irvine and Rothesay (Parliament of Scotland constituency), Rothesay. Ayr was a royal burgh that returned one commissioner (Parliament of Scotland), commissioner to the Parliament of Scotland and to the Convention of Estates. After the Acts of Union 1707, Ayr, Campbeltown (Parliament of Scotland constituency), Campbeltown, Inveraray (Parliament of Scotland constituency), Inveraray, Irvine (Parliament of Scotland constituency), Irvine and Rothesay (Parliament of Scotland constituency), Rothesay formed the Ayr Burghs (UK Parliament constituency), Ayr district of burghs, returning one member between them to the House of Commons of Great Britain.
